OAC BI Lift and Shift Options
 There are two options to perform Lift & Shift of your OBIEE system.
 Full Option:
 Move your data sources to the Oracle Database Cloud or ADWC
 Hybrid Option
 Keep your data sources (databases) in your local servers.

Steps for OBIEE Lift & Shift to OAC
1. Source Data
a. Move your source data to the Cloud
b. Keep the data on-premise
2. Modify the RPD connection pools to point to the correspondent database
3. Migrate the OBIEE on-premise system

 Move the data from the on-premise sources to an Oracle Database Cloud Instance

SSL communication.
5. Update the data model file connection pool to point to the Remote Data Connector URL.

 Direct connection between your Cloud and on-prem environments
 Provide 99.95% availability
 More reliable and consistent networking experience compared to internet-based connections
 Useful for:
 Very large data volumes
 High bandwidth requirements

Migration to OAC Step 2:Modify RPD Connections
 Backup the current on-prem RPD
 Change the connection details in the
Connection Pool in the Repository to
point to the Database Cloud
Instance (for full option) or to the
correspondent DB (for hybrid option)

Migration to OAC Step 3: Migrate from OBIEE 11g
 If your on premise system is OBIEE 11g
 Download the migration tool from
Console > Snapshot
 Generate the jar file for your OBIEE
system
 Upload it to OAC
 Run the migration_Import_bundle utility

Migration to OAC Step 3: Migrate from OBIEE 12c
 If your on premise system is OBIEE 12c
 Generate the bar file for your system
 Upload it as a Snapshot.

OAC Migration Tips & Tricks
 Cleaning the RPD and Web Catalog on OBIEE on-prem
 Delete the databases object in RPD that are not being used
 Be aware of the initialization blocks are pointing to the right database
 Delete Initialization Blocks that are not being used.

 Increase the result set array size under Database
Features in the RPD
(DEFAULT_BULK_FETCH_ROW_COUNT)
 To minimize performance impact for hybrid
solutions due network latency
 To reduce the network round-trips between the
Oracle BI server and the data source
 Reduces the response time of the queries.

 Avoid download large excel files from OAC
 Filter the data if possible
 Download the resulted file in CSV format instead
 If is totally necessary modify the instanceconfig,xml file under BI_DOMAIN/config/fmwconfig/
biconfig/OBIPS.

Changes after the first Cloud migration
 Can replace the RPD using the Replace Model
Option
 Can use Archive/Unarchive to move the Web
Catalog

Differences between BI Classic and DV
 The BI Classic and Data visualization complements
each other.
 Data visualization is oriented to Business Users to:
 Explore the data and discover data patterns
 BI Classic on the Cloud is OBIEE on premise for cloud
 More oriented to IT
 Can create more complex analyses
 Nested filters
 Hierarchies analyses based on OLAP format
