Dhirubhai Ambani was an Indian businessman who founded Reliance Industries. He was born in a small village in Gujarat to a school teacher. Starting with just 50,000 rupees, he grew Reliance Industries into a 75,000-crore company that became part of the Fortune 500, the first ever Indian private company to do so. He started in textiles and later expanded into petrochemicals, oil refining, telecommunications and financial services. After his death, Reliance was split between his two sons Mukesh and Anil, who continue to lead the company today.
