RESEARCH
The strengths of my research were that I researched into
other music videos to try and pick out different techniques
from them to use in my video and also to see the general
structure of a music video. These included lots of camera
shots, angles and transitions. I watched over 10 different
music videos and 10 different tutorials on transitions and
how to execute them. Most of these videos were from a
YouTube channel called Learn online video where this guy
called Steve shows you loads of filming tricks and
techniques for music videos, montages, commercial videos
etc. I used many of these techniques in my video.
I think one of the main weaknesses of my research was
although when watching other music videos I got a general
idea of how they are structured I didn’t really do any other
research into this or write any notes down hence why I
didn’t consider this whilst filming which meant my video
was just lots of footage that didn't have a structure or
purpose. This just made my video slightly jumbled and
didn’t really lead anywhere or have any kind of story.
PLANNING
The strengths of my planning was I planned exactly when
and where I would be filming and had a good idea in my
head about what camera shots and angles I would be using.
I also planned what time I would go to different locations
and checked to see how many people would be there to try
and not get lots of random people in the background of my
video. Unfortunately I did still get some people in the
background but it wasn’t a massive issue.
One of the weaknesses of my planning is that I didn’t think
about how much footage I would need. As I said before
there is no story to my music video and its just lots of
random footage but I didn’t plan how much footage I would
need to fill up the song. This meant that once I started
editing I did have to go back and film some more. One thing
I did learn during this project was that when your shooting a
music video your time is really tight and when you go to
your filming location you have to film and leave pretty
quickly so there is no extra time to plan anything during
that moment so have a clear an concise plan is crucial.
TIME MANAGEMENT
I think my time was managed well I just could have done
with more time. We were late filming as we had some
camera issues on the first day, so we had to use my
phone for the first bit but then it started raining really
heavily anyway so we had to stop. Then on the second
day we had to record in college as we were there all day,
and we were already short of time. We ended up having to
stop recording early because we had to start editing. And
then during editing I realised I still didn’t have enough
footage, so I had to use some scrap footage from the end
of one of my experimental projects. So yes, extra time
would have definitely benefited me. Not only would I have
been able to get all the footage I needed, but I would
have gone out and recorded I lots more locations which I
couldn’t due to lack of time.
TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
CAMERA - EDITING/POST
I used lots of different camera shots in my video
similar to other products and also edited the
transitions in a similar way too.
AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I think my work did look good. It was well planned out and it looked
similar to other music videos. I feel that it was creative because I took
lots of different camera angles and editing techniques e.g., transitions
and made them into 1 project. Next time I would use lighting to make
some of the darker shots look brighter.
I think a strength of my music video is that each shot ran together
smoothly together thanks to the similar location and the smooth
transitions.
One of the biggest weaknesses of my video is that the first part of it is
very low quality and resolution as we had to use my phone due to
camera issues. So, it goes from really bad quality to really good quality
and its very up and down and ruins the look of the video.
AUDIENCE APPEAL
I've appealed to my target audience because the song is based on
teenagers anyway as it has some adult content in it, but my music video
is someone walking around college and dreaming about how things
used to be which lots of teens do when they are in school, they dream
about where they want to be.
PEER
FEEDBACK
FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
 I really liked the camera techniques
 The transitions used made the video flow very well, it stopped the
video from being blocky which could have happened without the
transitions.
 The choice to use different locations with different lighting helped the
video as it had no story to it.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
 I think that maybe you could have edited the video to cut to the beat
a bit more and the actor could be a bit better, he looked at the
camera way too much.
-Assessed by Dan Richardson :)
FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
I thought the camera work seemed natural and had a
consistent at school feel.
You used quite a few locations, which gave the video a
lot of movement, and kept my attention as result.
You have utilised quite a few nice transition effects and
video effects, as well as a decent sound transition.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
 Colour was dull
 Looked at camera a few times, so maybe take a few more takes
-Assessed by Charlie Stevens :)
PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree that looking at the camera too much made the
video unrealistic as your meant to act like its not there.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I don’t disagree with anything.
PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I would retake or cut out the bits where I look at the camera because it
ruins the atmosphere and the idea of the video.
