TASK 1
Idea
Generation and
Research
RESEARCH
Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started,
make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides,
screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info
in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc
and how this might link to your production
Hint!
You’ve already done this in
your case study, so you can
summarise that here where
relevant
LOTUS INN – WHY DON’T WE
• Lyrics match visuals
• Transition effects
• Narration (voice over)
• Blurred, slow down effect to create the effect of them
being drunk and drugged
• Older/mature audience target
•Time loop narrative created through effects and repeated
scenes
UNBELIEVE – WHY DON’T WE
• Green screen with added effects to create earth quake
effects
• CGI to create giant statues of the band
• Choreographed routine in time with the effects and
visuals
• Stereotypical American boyband dress codes and actions
• Use of close-ups to draw attention and create an ‘iconic’
moment
• lyrics match the visuals
DON’T CHANGE – WHY DON’T
WE
• Ugly dolls intertextuality
• Green screen to create effects of them ‘taking photos’
with the green screen frame and being in a room with
loads of random green screens with clips of the film
showing
•Hasn’t got a specific narrative
•Close-ups used
HOOKED – WHY DON’T WE
• lots of intertextuality for James Bond, star trek/star
wars, warners brother backlot, 20,000 leagues under the
sea
• Green screen use for the james bond theme scene
• Animation created to create the look of a video game for
part of the video
• special effects to make it look like the woman dissolved
and disappeared.
CHILLS – WHY DON’T WE
• Colour grading
• Coloured lighting effects
• Mature audience appeal
• Transitions created by camerawork
• Includes fans and a stage performance
POTENTIAL SONGS
List the songs you might want to do:
POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
Look at camera, editing and special effects (digital and
physical) techniques you could employ. Look at tutorials
online and on YouTube.
• I want to use LED lights to create cool coloured effects
and make it more dramatic and created colour shadows.
• I want to create transitions using camerawork.
• I’m going to use a green screen, if possible, to do some
shots with cool backgrounds which I will play around
with and experiment to see what I like the look of most.
• I might also try doing some editing to try speed ramping
during the dance section of the video.
• I could use the scribble effect using the paint bucket
tool and change tolerance
CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
What are the conventions of your musical genre? How
could you use them?
• A lot of pop music videos have at least clips of people
singing the song (usually the artist)
• I could maybe also use close ups of someone who is
going to be ‘the artist’
• The music video won’t have a big, main narrative but
may have a small narrative to make the video less
random and make more sense
• I could use split screening to create more effect and
make it interesting
MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
SUMMARY
5 opportunities of your ideas; what would it allow you to do?
Expand your skills? Refine something you already know how
to do?
• All my ideas will allow me to experiment with different
effects and camerawork techniques
• from my ideas it will give me the opportunity to mess
around and experiment with lighting and see what looks
best and the most professional
• It will allow me to practice my skills that I learnt on
premiere last time and expend on those skills and learn new
ones.
• it will allow me to know how to use a green screen and
experiment with that
•Finally, it will allow me to have experience directing and
coming up with my own ideas for the video.
SUMMARY
5 restrictions to your ideas. Think about locations, cast and
personnel. Are any elements of your idea really difficult? Do
you have enough time?
• Cast is going to be a struggle as if I wanted multiple people
than I may struggle to find volunteers to be in it
• Location may be difficult to find somewhere interesting and
something interesting to film in and out of college.
• I may also struggle to find someone who can learn/create a
dance to be part of the video in time to film.
• As I am still learning, I may also struggle figuring out how
to create certain things on premier, but I will learn as I
progress.
• Finally, I may also struggle to get the timing between the
clips and the song in time, but I will keep trying and editing
until I can get it as close as possible.
FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
Fallin’ (adrenaline) / Why Don’t We
Brief biographical background:
Why don’t we are an American boy band signed by Atlantic records,
which includes members: Jack Avery, Daniel Seavey Corbyn Besson,
Zach Herron and Jonah Marais. They formed in 2016 with their first
single, ’taking you’ and have now released 2 studio albums called ‘8
letters’ and ‘the good times and the bad ones’. they met during a
tour called the impact tour. Jack and Daniel had also previously met
on American Idol which Daniel had made it onto the show and had
finished in the top 10, however Jack did not. They formed together
on this tour and eventually decided to make the band official and the
name ‘why don’t we’ came from the question of ‘why don’t we start a
band?’. Their most popular song is ‘8 letters’
Genre info:
They are a stereotypical young, American, pop music, boyband.
FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
Fallin’ (Adrenaline) is a pop song which was released as the
lead single for the most recent album ‘the good times and
the bad ones’ however was the last song they wrote in the
studio but decided they wanted to share this song first. The
meaning behind the song is talking about someone being
their ‘muse’ meaning the person the band’s talking about,
is their musical inspiration and someone they idolize
because of how in love with this person they are. It was the
band’s first song that they wrote and recorded on their own.
They had come off social media completely and went into
secrecy for months to build up to the release of fallin’ and
the rest of the album. The song is 3 minutes and 37
seconds long and was written based from the melody and
the lyrics worked around it. The song was written in a
couple of hours after Daniel had all the ideas for the song in
his head and worked with the boys to fully make and record
the song.
FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your
interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre
conventions, etc]
My idea for the video is going to consist of:
• Cool random shots for the beginning drums section (first 8
seconds)
• Then it will have a shot which includes the LED lights and
some more random, cool shots
• It will also consist of some dance sequences (some with
green screen, some without)
• I am also going to try and get some lip syncing to include
in the video if I get the volunteer to do it.
•I am also going to include some footage from the why don’t
we Roblox game.
TASK 2
Pre-production
Assessment
GUIDANC
E:
PRE-
PRODUCT
ION
ASSESSM
ENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make your
music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUC
TION OUTLINE
Summary of intended production
Detail here what you are going to
make and the intended outcome
Detailed breakdown of the music
track chosen and your interpretation
of it [remember the questions in the
workbook, e.g.
pace/mood/tone/structure]
Specific outline your intended
technical/equipment requirements
Include any details that you think
[you could use material from your
pitch]
LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost,
weather? How will you manage this?
In college I will have shots inside and outside. Some filmed in the
studio, some just around the college.
Location 1, the woods, I would need to take a first aid kit with me
just in case it is needed. The nearest toilets are about 10 minutes
away and I would need to stay as a group so that I am not on my
own (for safety). It is a good idea to avoid recording in the woods if
it has/is raining for health and safety.
Location 2, the studio, I would need to make sure everyone is
careful of the hot lights and make sure nobody trips over wires.
Location 3, around college (inside and out), I would need to make
sure I stay in a group and not going off on my own in case
anything was to happen to me and I was on my own. Outside on
college grounds is only a good idea really if it is good weather and
not raining as the floor can get quite slippery.
EQUIPMENT
What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly
from college, but who do you need to speak to get this
kit? What is available? When?
I have booked LED lights, a camera, SD card, tripod and
the green screen in the studio for Tuesday, 12th
FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities…?
I will edit my project in college either on the computers
in my room or in the library. To edit I will only need
premiere pro so I will need to make sure that whatever
Im going to be editing on, had premiere.
PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each
team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they
available?
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are
they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed
them? Transport them?
Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?
Some of my classmates are going to help me by being in
my video. I am also going to get some support from
family and friends who are going to help me get some
shots outside if college. I will make sure that all facilities
are available for them when filming.
PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
I am going to try and get all my mast to wear black and
white clothing. The only props I will need is the LED
lights, which I will get from home, when I am filming
from home and from college when in college.
TASK 3.1
Visual Planning
PRE-PRODUCTION:
VISUAL PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your
music video
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the relationship between the visuals and the
track itself and create a structure for you to follow when
filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the video before you
make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
 Pre-visualisation and concept boards
 Storyboarding
 Shot list
PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONC
EPT BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you to
approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have
inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:

games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
STRUCTU
RAL
BREAKDO
WN
Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g.
intro, verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad
visual ideas to each section
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots to each section
when you develop your full visual plan
You should create a slide showing all the sections
of the song, then add a slide for each section with
timings, lyrics, what happens and details on
specific shots
You could storyboard and shot list each section
as you go, to break up the process.
STRUCTURE
Intro - Random cool shots to fit tempo
Verse - Tour of York and sunrise (short shots compilation)
Pre-chorus - Scribble effect (friends dancing)
Chorus - Shot with LED lights/band with lighting effects
Verse 2 - Dance shot with green screen using speed ramping
Pre-chorus - Scribble effect (singing
Chorus - bowling shots
Break -
Pre-chorus -
Chorus -
Outro -
STORYBOAR
DING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to
life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you
video
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
 http://www.pixton.com [very
complicated]
 http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you
to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph
your storyboard and scan or copy to insert
it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on
Blackboard!
Mv production assignment form 2021
SHOT
LIST
Your shot list should contain the
sequential breakdown of what you
need to shoot for your video
It should work in partnership with
your storyboard
It will be your working document
when you film
It should contain the shot number,
scene number, shot description,
framing and action you will see
It should also have information on
performers in the scene and other
props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard
in the pre-production folder.
SHOT LIST -
Intro – mix of shots
Verse – long shot panning montage
Pre-chorus – long shot but animated to zoom in
Chorus – long shot with close ups of the instruments
Verse 2 – Long shot with green
Pre-chorus – medium close-up
Chorus – close-up of the ball hitting the pins
TASK 3.2

RISK
ASSESSM
ENT
Risk Assess each separate filming
location using the table in the
camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring
point
Completing a generic filming
assessment would be a start, then
you can add specialist/site specific
risks as you progress your
production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an
ongoing document, you should
evaluate if anything changes in
production and when you put
control measures in place
You should add the table to each
call sheet for each location
RISK ASSESSMENT
• Selby Canal –
- If it has been raining it could get slippery and/or muddy
meaning that I could slip and hurt myself
- If I got too close to the edge of the canal I could easily fall in
as there are no safety railings
- There are a lot of dogs on the canal and one of them might be
quite viscious so I will need to keep clear of dogs that I don’t know
and take a first aid kit if any injuries do occur during filming
- I need to make sure I respect the wildlife their as there are
geese, birds, ducks and other creatures/animals living in and near the
canal
- I will need to make sure I go with someone and not on my
own depending on what time of day I go, if it gets dark or I injure
myself, I need someone with me to get help if I need it.
RISK ASSESSMENT
• Farmers Field-
- Rain could cause slipperiness and mud on the grass which
could lead to potential slips
- There could be pieces of glass, metal or scrapped farming
equipment that has been dumped there, so will need to take a
first aid kit in case of any injuries and stay clear of damaged areas.
- I will need to make sure that I am in a group of at least 2 or 3
to make sure that I am safe and have someone with me if anything
bad was to happen whilst filming.
- I need to be aware of any wildlife living there like deer,
rabbits, hedgehogs, mice, rats etc ad need to respect their space and
stay clear of them.
- the fence is broken at the farm and the hedge is overgrown so
I need t make sure that I stay clear of those as anything sticking out
from either of them could injure me.
RISK ASSESSMENT
• Selby Bowling Alley –
- Bowling balls can be quite heavy and I will need to make sure
that nobody drops them on their feet as it could cause serious injury
but first aid is available there all the time that they are open and also
make sure that nobody gets a bowling ball that is too heavy for
them as it can cause back injuries.
- As the bowling alley is an indoor, public place, under the
current circumstances I will need to make sure that everything is
sanitised in between uses and I will need to make sure that everyone
wears a mask whilst in there.
- The bowling alley is slippery so you would need to be careful
of that and be cautious getting close to the alley
RISK ASSESSMENT
York College –
- Make sure that you are always with a group to seek advice if
anything was to happen. If anyone gets injured or has a problem.
Facilities are available all over college including first aiders at the
front desk and there are first aid kits available too.
- Fire doors are all over and the college has emergency exits in
case of an emergency.
- Be careful of anyone else who may be in the college including
staff and students and make sure that if they are going to be in
the shot whilst you film, that you don’t show their face or you have
permission to do so.
- It is wise to make sure you walk and do not run especially on
stairs, busy corridors and near the centre balcony corridor inside
college.
RISK ASSESSMENT
York College Studio –
- There are wires on the floor which are a potential tripping
hazard so I will make sure that they are out of the cast and crew’s
way and make sure that they won’t be an issue. If someone was to
trip on them first aid and first aiders are available throughout
college.
- The lights in the studio can get very hot so I will make sure
that nobody is to go near them or at least close enough to
burn themselves and first aid will be available if anything was
to happen.
- The equipment will have been checked to make sure it is up
properly and safely to make it a safe environment to film in and
make sure nothing is going to fall or break during filming.
- I will go in a group to make sure there is always someone to
get help f it is required.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Brayton Barf-
- Rain could cause slipperiness and mud on the grass which could
lead to potential slips
- There could be pieces of glass, metal or scrapped metal and water
equipment that has been dumped there, so will need to take a first aid
kit in case of any injuries and stay clear of damaged areas.
- I will need to make sure that I am in a group of at least 2 or 3 to
make sure that I am safe and have someone with me if anything bad was to
happen whilst filming.
- I need to be aware of any wildlife living there like deer, rabbits,
hedgehogs, mice, squirrels rats etc ad need to respect their space
and stay clear of them.
- The hedges and pathways overgrown in places so I need to make
sure that I stay clear of those as anything sticking out from either of them
could injure me or my cast/crew.
- there is a lot of dog walkers around the canal so it is wise for me
and my cast and c crew to stay clear of any dogs in case there are any vicious
dogs that could harm my cast/crew.
CONTINGENCY
PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a
backup or to minimise the effect on
production
You should consider the following areas:
Technical, Location, Personnel and
Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues
for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on
Blackboard
CONTINGENCY PLAN
Brayton Barf- It may be too busy to film, it could be bad weather which
makes too bad conditions to work in if it becomes slippery, my cast
members may have a problem getting to the location, my phone battery
or camera battery may run out whilst filming so I will need to take
backup options for both. As a backup option for filming I could go to a
sheltered area in the barf or go to another woodland area that is more
sheltered.
York College studio – The studio for some reason may be in use and be
unavailable when I go, something could break whilst I am using it, the
battery on my camera could die, The wrong screen could be put up, as a
back up option for the studio if it is not available for the time I
requested I may need to rebook it.
Around college – There may be too many people around to film, my
battery could die, if I can not film in college I could wait until after
college when it is quiet or I could find somewhere else that’s quieter to
film.
Selby Bowling Alley- it may close and I would have to find another place
to film by either rethinking the idea or finding another bowling alley to
film at, my battery could die on my camera or my phone, my cast/crew
may now find the location.
Selby canal – With a lot of bad weather the canal sometimes floods so I

GUIDANC E This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant elements you need to cover in your Music Video Assignment It is suggested you save this PP in a different name and share it with your group so you always have a copy – some sections require you to delete the information on the slide and replace with your own work Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be doing this!] Add visuals as you see necessary This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-production phase. Delete this slide when complete
  • 4. RESEARCH Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started, make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides, screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc and how this might link to your production Hint! You’ve already done this in your case study, so you can summarise that here where relevant
  • 5. LOTUS INN – WHY DON’T WE • Lyrics match visuals • Transition effects • Narration (voice over) • Blurred, slow down effect to create the effect of them being drunk and drugged • Older/mature audience target •Time loop narrative created through effects and repeated scenes
  • 6. UNBELIEVE – WHY DON’T WE • Green screen with added effects to create earth quake effects • CGI to create giant statues of the band • Choreographed routine in time with the effects and visuals • Stereotypical American boyband dress codes and actions • Use of close-ups to draw attention and create an ‘iconic’ moment • lyrics match the visuals
  • 7. DON’T CHANGE – WHY DON’T WE • Ugly dolls intertextuality • Green screen to create effects of them ‘taking photos’ with the green screen frame and being in a room with loads of random green screens with clips of the film showing •Hasn’t got a specific narrative •Close-ups used
  • 8. HOOKED – WHY DON’T WE • lots of intertextuality for James Bond, star trek/star wars, warners brother backlot, 20,000 leagues under the sea • Green screen use for the james bond theme scene • Animation created to create the look of a video game for part of the video • special effects to make it look like the woman dissolved and disappeared.
  • 9. CHILLS – WHY DON’T WE • Colour grading • Coloured lighting effects • Mature audience appeal • Transitions created by camerawork • Includes fans and a stage performance
  • 10. POTENTIAL SONGS List the songs you might want to do:
  • 11. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES Look at camera, editing and special effects (digital and physical) techniques you could employ. Look at tutorials online and on YouTube. • I want to use LED lights to create cool coloured effects and make it more dramatic and created colour shadows. • I want to create transitions using camerawork. • I’m going to use a green screen, if possible, to do some shots with cool backgrounds which I will play around with and experiment to see what I like the look of most. • I might also try doing some editing to try speed ramping during the dance section of the video. • I could use the scribble effect using the paint bucket tool and change tolerance
  • 12. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO USE What are the conventions of your musical genre? How could you use them? • A lot of pop music videos have at least clips of people singing the song (usually the artist) • I could maybe also use close ups of someone who is going to be ‘the artist’ • The music video won’t have a big, main narrative but may have a small narrative to make the video less random and make more sense • I could use split screening to create more effect and make it interesting
  • 13. MIND MAP OF IDEAS [SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
  • 14. SUMMARY 5 opportunities of your ideas; what would it allow you to do? Expand your skills? Refine something you already know how to do? • All my ideas will allow me to experiment with different effects and camerawork techniques • from my ideas it will give me the opportunity to mess around and experiment with lighting and see what looks best and the most professional • It will allow me to practice my skills that I learnt on premiere last time and expend on those skills and learn new ones. • it will allow me to know how to use a green screen and experiment with that •Finally, it will allow me to have experience directing and coming up with my own ideas for the video.
  • 15. SUMMARY 5 restrictions to your ideas. Think about locations, cast and personnel. Are any elements of your idea really difficult? Do you have enough time? • Cast is going to be a struggle as if I wanted multiple people than I may struggle to find volunteers to be in it • Location may be difficult to find somewhere interesting and something interesting to film in and out of college. • I may also struggle to find someone who can learn/create a dance to be part of the video in time to film. • As I am still learning, I may also struggle figuring out how to create certain things on premier, but I will learn as I progress. • Finally, I may also struggle to get the timing between the clips and the song in time, but I will keep trying and editing until I can get it as close as possible.
  • 16. FINAL IDEA – ARTIST/TITLE/INFO Fallin’ (adrenaline) / Why Don’t We Brief biographical background: Why don’t we are an American boy band signed by Atlantic records, which includes members: Jack Avery, Daniel Seavey Corbyn Besson, Zach Herron and Jonah Marais. They formed in 2016 with their first single, ’taking you’ and have now released 2 studio albums called ‘8 letters’ and ‘the good times and the bad ones’. they met during a tour called the impact tour. Jack and Daniel had also previously met on American Idol which Daniel had made it onto the show and had finished in the top 10, however Jack did not. They formed together on this tour and eventually decided to make the band official and the name ‘why don’t we’ came from the question of ‘why don’t we start a band?’. Their most popular song is ‘8 letters’ Genre info: They are a stereotypical young, American, pop music, boyband.
  • 17. FINAL IDEA – TRACK SUMMARY Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration, pace and style of the song] Fallin’ (Adrenaline) is a pop song which was released as the lead single for the most recent album ‘the good times and the bad ones’ however was the last song they wrote in the studio but decided they wanted to share this song first. The meaning behind the song is talking about someone being their ‘muse’ meaning the person the band’s talking about, is their musical inspiration and someone they idolize because of how in love with this person they are. It was the band’s first song that they wrote and recorded on their own. They had come off social media completely and went into secrecy for months to build up to the release of fallin’ and the rest of the album. The song is 3 minutes and 37 seconds long and was written based from the melody and the lyrics worked around it. The song was written in a couple of hours after Daniel had all the ideas for the song in his head and worked with the boys to fully make and record the song.
  • 18. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc] My idea for the video is going to consist of: • Cool random shots for the beginning drums section (first 8 seconds) • Then it will have a shot which includes the LED lights and some more random, cool shots • It will also consist of some dance sequences (some with green screen, some without) • I am also going to try and get some lip syncing to include in the video if I get the volunteer to do it. •I am also going to include some footage from the why don’t we Roblox game.
  • 20. GUIDANC E: PRE- PRODUCT ION ASSESSM ENT You need to assess the viability of your production and investigate what is required to enable you to make your music video Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will need to investigate standard costings for such a production and apply these to your planned production considering which equipment you would need and resources, etc Resources to support this are in the Pre-production assessment folder on Blackboard Delete the questions on each slide and insert your responses
  • 21. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUC TION OUTLINE Summary of intended production Detail here what you are going to make and the intended outcome Detailed breakdown of the music track chosen and your interpretation of it [remember the questions in the workbook, e.g. pace/mood/tone/structure] Specific outline your intended technical/equipment requirements Include any details that you think [you could use material from your pitch]
  • 22. LOCATIONS You need to identify locations and plan a recce. What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather? How will you manage this? In college I will have shots inside and outside. Some filmed in the studio, some just around the college. Location 1, the woods, I would need to take a first aid kit with me just in case it is needed. The nearest toilets are about 10 minutes away and I would need to stay as a group so that I am not on my own (for safety). It is a good idea to avoid recording in the woods if it has/is raining for health and safety. Location 2, the studio, I would need to make sure everyone is careful of the hot lights and make sure nobody trips over wires. Location 3, around college (inside and out), I would need to make sure I stay in a group and not going off on my own in case anything was to happen to me and I was on my own. Outside on college grounds is only a good idea really if it is good weather and not raining as the floor can get quite slippery.
  • 23. EQUIPMENT What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly from college, but who do you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When? I have booked LED lights, a camera, SD card, tripod and the green screen in the studio for Tuesday, 12th
  • 24. FACILITIES Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist facilities…? I will edit my project in college either on the computers in my room or in the library. To edit I will only need premiere pro so I will need to make sure that whatever Im going to be editing on, had premiere.
  • 25. PERSONNEL CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they available? CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them? Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you? Some of my classmates are going to help me by being in my video. I am also going to get some support from family and friends who are going to help me get some shots outside if college. I will make sure that all facilities are available for them when filming.
  • 26. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC I am going to try and get all my mast to wear black and white clothing. The only props I will need is the LED lights, which I will get from home, when I am filming from home and from college when in college.
  • 28. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL PLANNING This section is concerned with the visual planning of your music video You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your video, establish the relationship between the visuals and the track itself and create a structure for you to follow when filming It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the video before you make it; it will make filming and production a more streamlined process The following tasks are part of your visual planning  Pre-visualisation and concept boards  Storyboarding  Shot list
  • 29. PRE- VISUALISATION/CONC EPT BOARDS Tool for exploring the direction and visuals Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel” Presents key moments in your video A means to sketch/plan ideas Information on colour/lighting Defining the “mise-en-scene” Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the production, the following slides have been left blank for you to approach in your own way, add more as you need to Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this: http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for-hunger- games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
  • 30. STRUCTU RAL BREAKDO WN Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g. intro, verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad visual ideas to each section You can use this as the master template for your production, then add more shots to each section when you develop your full visual plan You should create a slide showing all the sections of the song, then add a slide for each section with timings, lyrics, what happens and details on specific shots You could storyboard and shot list each section as you go, to break up the process.
  • 31. STRUCTURE Intro - Random cool shots to fit tempo Verse - Tour of York and sunrise (short shots compilation) Pre-chorus - Scribble effect (friends dancing) Chorus - Shot with LED lights/band with lighting effects Verse 2 - Dance shot with green screen using speed ramping Pre-chorus - Scribble effect (singing Chorus - bowling shots Break - Pre-chorus - Chorus - Outro -
  • 32. STORYBOAR DING Your storyboard should bring your idea to life Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video Provides a basis for production Suggested online storyboard creators are:  https://www.storyboardthat.com  http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]  http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images] Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or copy to insert it onto your slides There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
  • 34. SHOT LIST Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what you need to shoot for your video It should work in partnership with your storyboard It will be your working document when you film It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot description, framing and action you will see It should also have information on performers in the scene and other props, etc Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.
  • 35. SHOT LIST - Intro – mix of shots Verse – long shot panning montage Pre-chorus – long shot but animated to zoom in Chorus – long shot with close ups of the instruments Verse 2 – Long shot with green Pre-chorus – medium close-up Chorus – close-up of the ball hitting the pins
  • 37. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO Include names, contact info, and defined roles at difference stages of production, using a table is suggested • Zuzanna – @szklowoko (insta) • Emily – @emilymaykane (insta) • Lizzie - @_lizziemaex (insta) • Lewis - @lewisc20054 (sc) • Hayden - @haydenklg27 (sc) • Aaron - @aaronwritter7 (sc)
  • 38. LOCATION INFORMAT ION Information and images of your location[s] for filming You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming, recce photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and cast/crew layouts] Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions
  • 39. LOCATIONS • Around College – (In college cast required) • A Field (no cast required) • Selby Bowling Alley (1 cast member required) • Selby Canal (no cast required) • The Studio (all in college cast required) • Around York – (1 cast member required) • Brayton Barff – (no cast required)
  • 40. ADDRESSES- • Selby Canal – YO8 8QE • Farmers Field at Flaxley Road, Selby. YO8 4DB • Selby Bowling Alley – Unit 1, Bawtry Rd, Selby YO8 8NA • York College – Sim Balk Ln, Bishopthorpe, York YO23 2BB • Around York – York Piccadilly, York walls, York City centre • Brayton Barff – 53 Barff Ln, Brayton, Selby YO8 9ET
  • 41. RISK ASSESSM ENT Risk Assess each separate filming location using the table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point Completing a generic filming assessment would be a start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as you progress your production Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document, you should evaluate if anything changes in production and when you put control measures in place You should add the table to each call sheet for each location
  • 42. RISK ASSESSMENT • Selby Canal – - If it has been raining it could get slippery and/or muddy meaning that I could slip and hurt myself - If I got too close to the edge of the canal I could easily fall in as there are no safety railings - There are a lot of dogs on the canal and one of them might be quite viscious so I will need to keep clear of dogs that I don’t know and take a first aid kit if any injuries do occur during filming - I need to make sure I respect the wildlife their as there are geese, birds, ducks and other creatures/animals living in and near the canal - I will need to make sure I go with someone and not on my own depending on what time of day I go, if it gets dark or I injure myself, I need someone with me to get help if I need it.
  • 43. RISK ASSESSMENT • Farmers Field- - Rain could cause slipperiness and mud on the grass which could lead to potential slips - There could be pieces of glass, metal or scrapped farming equipment that has been dumped there, so will need to take a first aid kit in case of any injuries and stay clear of damaged areas. - I will need to make sure that I am in a group of at least 2 or 3 to make sure that I am safe and have someone with me if anything bad was to happen whilst filming. - I need to be aware of any wildlife living there like deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, mice, rats etc ad need to respect their space and stay clear of them. - the fence is broken at the farm and the hedge is overgrown so I need t make sure that I stay clear of those as anything sticking out from either of them could injure me.
  • 44. RISK ASSESSMENT • Selby Bowling Alley – - Bowling balls can be quite heavy and I will need to make sure that nobody drops them on their feet as it could cause serious injury but first aid is available there all the time that they are open and also make sure that nobody gets a bowling ball that is too heavy for them as it can cause back injuries. - As the bowling alley is an indoor, public place, under the current circumstances I will need to make sure that everything is sanitised in between uses and I will need to make sure that everyone wears a mask whilst in there. - The bowling alley is slippery so you would need to be careful of that and be cautious getting close to the alley
  • 45. RISK ASSESSMENT York College – - Make sure that you are always with a group to seek advice if anything was to happen. If anyone gets injured or has a problem. Facilities are available all over college including first aiders at the front desk and there are first aid kits available too. - Fire doors are all over and the college has emergency exits in case of an emergency. - Be careful of anyone else who may be in the college including staff and students and make sure that if they are going to be in the shot whilst you film, that you don’t show their face or you have permission to do so. - It is wise to make sure you walk and do not run especially on stairs, busy corridors and near the centre balcony corridor inside college.
  • 46. RISK ASSESSMENT York College Studio – - There are wires on the floor which are a potential tripping hazard so I will make sure that they are out of the cast and crew’s way and make sure that they won’t be an issue. If someone was to trip on them first aid and first aiders are available throughout college. - The lights in the studio can get very hot so I will make sure that nobody is to go near them or at least close enough to burn themselves and first aid will be available if anything was to happen. - The equipment will have been checked to make sure it is up properly and safely to make it a safe environment to film in and make sure nothing is going to fall or break during filming. - I will go in a group to make sure there is always someone to get help f it is required.
  • 47. RISK ASSESSMENT Brayton Barf- - Rain could cause slipperiness and mud on the grass which could lead to potential slips - There could be pieces of glass, metal or scrapped metal and water equipment that has been dumped there, so will need to take a first aid kit in case of any injuries and stay clear of damaged areas. - I will need to make sure that I am in a group of at least 2 or 3 to make sure that I am safe and have someone with me if anything bad was to happen whilst filming. - I need to be aware of any wildlife living there like deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, mice, squirrels rats etc ad need to respect their space and stay clear of them. - The hedges and pathways overgrown in places so I need to make sure that I stay clear of those as anything sticking out from either of them could injure me or my cast/crew. - there is a lot of dog walkers around the canal so it is wise for me and my cast and c crew to stay clear of any dogs in case there are any vicious dogs that could harm my cast/crew.
  • 48. CONTINGENCY PLANNING Things go wrong Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to minimise the effect on production You should consider the following areas: Technical, Location, Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues for each] Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
  • 49. CONTINGENCY PLAN Brayton Barf- It may be too busy to film, it could be bad weather which makes too bad conditions to work in if it becomes slippery, my cast members may have a problem getting to the location, my phone battery or camera battery may run out whilst filming so I will need to take backup options for both. As a backup option for filming I could go to a sheltered area in the barf or go to another woodland area that is more sheltered. York College studio – The studio for some reason may be in use and be unavailable when I go, something could break whilst I am using it, the battery on my camera could die, The wrong screen could be put up, as a back up option for the studio if it is not available for the time I requested I may need to rebook it. Around college – There may be too many people around to film, my battery could die, if I can not film in college I could wait until after college when it is quiet or I could find somewhere else that’s quieter to film. Selby Bowling Alley- it may close and I would have to find another place to film by either rethinking the idea or finding another bowling alley to film at, my battery could die on my camera or my phone, my cast/crew may now find the location. Selby canal – With a lot of bad weather the canal sometimes floods so I
  • 50. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for production, that is for the filming and editing of your project. You should plan when you’re filming and how you intend to use the in class days on your timetable/class schedule
  • 51. SCHEDULE Week Activity 1 Saturday, Bowling Tuesday, 1:15pm - Studio 2 3 Editing all week Awaiting confirmation.
