MYCEL is a South Korean startup established in 2020 that develops sustainable alternatives to leather and protein using mycelium fermentation. They have raised $12 million to date to build manufacturing facilities and launch mycelium leather and protein products in 2024. MYCEL's process reduces environmental impacts like CO2 emissions and water use by over 90% compared to conventional materials by fermenting mycelium biomass into leather- and protein-like materials through a fully biodegradable process.
