Narrative structures:
Firstly, my book has a closed structure. This Is
because my book tells the whole story and then it
ends, nothing else could be said or done. An example
of a narrative with an open structure is inception.
This is because the story was left leaving the audience
thinking is it the end?
My story is linear because the story gets told in a very
straightforward fashion. Pablo gets Laquisha back
and Captain bananas gets defeated. An example of a
non-linear narrative is Pulp Fiction. This is because
the story has loads of flash backs and it jumps
through time. I did my story linear to help the young
audience understand what’s happening with no
confusion.
My story is a single strand narrative. This is because
there is only one story that gets told, Pablo finishes
his mission and that’s all there is too it. I did it like
this because it’s simpler for the young audience to
understand. An example of a multi strand storyline is
Hollyoaks. Hollyoaks has a main storyline to the
episode and then small storylines on the side with
different characters.
My story is non-realist this is because nothing in my
story is realistic.Monkeys can’t keep a woman
hostage and a pizza deliverymanwith a flying pizza
bike can’t save her just by throwing pizza in the
monkey’s faces. An example of a realist narrative
would be CoronationStreet.
Narrative components
My story starts with an opening of two main
characters in a calm environment. On the next several
pages are pages on conflict betweenPablo and
Captain banana. Conflict is what drives my story
because without the conflict there is no story. My
story does come to a resolution at the end where
captain banana gets defeated and Pablo,Laquisha and
Robert all get away in one piece. My story doesn’t
include enigma, climax or manipulation of time and
space because I believe a children’s book should be
simple to read and understand. I wouldn’t want my
children’s book to be like inception where it’s really
confusing. I just wanted a book that was linear, closed
and had a single strand storyline.
