Expressions to make request:
• Could you tell me what happened, please?
• Can you help me?
• Will you explain it more clearly, please?
• Would you take a cup in the kitchen, please?
• I must ask you to remember it.
• I have to ask you to go on working.
• I would be glad if you could help me.
Responding to request:
• I have no objection.
• Yes, sure.
• Certainly.
• Okay.

• Sorry, I’m busy now.

The ways to express attitudes
The followings are expressions to show attitudes in various situations.
When you like something, you can express your like by using the
following expressions:
• I’d like it. • I love it.
• I enjoyed it. • I’m crazy about it.
• I really like it. • I’m really fond of it.
• I’m really keen on it.
When you dislike something, you
can use the following sentences to
express.
• I dislike it.
• I hate it.
• I didn’t enjoy it.
• I’ve never liked it.
• I really do not like it.
• I’m not keen on it.
• I don’t love it.
• I think it’s boring.
Read the explanation carefully.
The following expressions can be used when you are
pleased with something:
• Great.
• Terrific.
• Fantastic.
• I’m very pleased with/to ….
• I’m very delighted to/with ….
• It gives me great pleasure to ….
The following expressions can be used to
express displeased with something:
• Oh no.
• Oh, hell no.
• I can’t stand …..
• I’m feed up with ….
• I’m really displeased with/to ….
Read and study the explanation below.
• The above text is an example of narrative text. Narrative is a
text which deals with the problematic events that leads to a
crisis or turning point of some problematic events which in
turn finds a resolution.
• Social function of a narrative is to amuse the reader’s or
listeners’ interest.
• Narrative texts include tales, legend, romance, horror
stories, crime, real-life fiction, historical fiction, mystery,
ballads, fables, fantasy, science fiction, diary-novels, and
adventure stories.
Written Cycle
Generic structures of narrative are:
• Orientation.
It is the opening of the story. It introduces the setting of place, setting of
time, and the main character/s who play/s in the story.
• Complication.
It sets off a chain of events that influences what will happen in the
story. It tells the problematic events of the story.
• Resolution.
It constitutes ending of the story. It is ending of the story in which the
characters finally solve the complication and the problematic event end.
• Sometimes, a narrative text has a coda that provides a comment or
moral values based on what has been learned from the story.
• Language features of narrative are:
 It uses Past Tense.
 It uses time words that connect events to tell when they occur.
 It uses action verbs to show the actions that the characters do in the
story.
 It uses descriptive words to portray the characters and settings.
 Sometimes, it uses dialogues.
