Note Taking Practice - Homework
If your exam text is Audio Visual then you will be shown the clip 3 times with a ten minute gap in between the 2nd and 3rd
viewing specifically for making notes before you start the exam.
This is a skill that can be practiced!
The exam will ask you to analyse the clip based on certain codes, Although some of these codes overlap with each other
and you should get into the habit of making as many notes as possible.
The Task:
1. Make headings of the codes you are
looking out for.
2. Watch the trailer twice. But do NOT
make notes.
3. Watch the trailer two more times –
making notes.
4. Continue making notes for TEN
minutes. Use a stopwatch on a phone or
some other kind of timer.
5. Watch the trailer another two times
making notes on anything you have left
out.
The Trailers:
Choose a variety of different genres when you select
trailers to analyse.
Remember to make notes on everything you see – if
you begin to get stuck putting ideas into categories
then start to simply write down whatever you can:
• A list of things that happen
• Lines of dialogue
• Places or things that you remember
