- 8. Electromagnetic Spectrum This electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) is the radiant energy released from the sun.
- 9. Electromagnetic Spectrum It travels at the speed of light through space and includes all types of electromagnetic waves
- 11. Electromagnetic Spectrum There are seven types of electromagnetic waves in the EMS Radio Waves Microwaves Infrared Waves Visible Light Waves Ultraviolet Waves X-Rays Gamma Rays

- 13. Radio Waves The electromagnetic waves with the lowest frequency. Used to transmit radio and television signals (Before Digital TV) The largest band making 20 % of the EMS
- 14. Microwaves
- 15. Microwaves The second frequency level of the EMS. Used to send cell phone signals and to cook food Make up 15% of the EMS
- 16. Infrared waves
- 17. Infrared waves The level just beneath visible light. It measures heat as it reflects off objects. Night vision goggles use it to see objects in total darkness. Make up 13% of the EMS
- 18. Visible light The smallest section about 9% of the EMS. It allows us to see. ROYGBIV
- 19. The Visible Light Spectrum (Wavelengths)
- 20. Ultraviolet Light Means above violet light on the visible light spectrum so it cannot be seen. Makes up 12% of the EMS If unprotected it may cause: – sunburn – skin cancer
- 21. X-Rays Make up 16% of the total EMS X-Rays can pass through many substances. Lead is one of a few substances that prevent the transfer of X-Rays

- 23. Gamma Rays The highest frequency of the EMS. Making up 15% of the EMS, Very dangerous but still can be used for cancer cures.
