WHAT IS NOTE TAKING?
Note taking is the practice of recording
information from different sources and
platforms. By taking notes, the writer
records the essence of the information,
freeing their mind from having to recall
everything.
Notes are commonly taken
from oral discussion at a
meeting, or a lecture in
which case the notes may be
the only record of the event.
Note can be taken
traditionally were almost
always handwritten in
notebooks. But the
introduction of notetaking
software has made digital
notetaking possible and
widespread.
Hearing something
once is not enough
to really learn it, and
that is why note
taking is so
important...
NOTE
TAKING
IN
GENERAL
NOTE TAKING IS A
CRUCIAL PART OF THE
LEARNING PROCESS.
IT HELPS STUDENTS
LEARN, RETAIN, AND
RECALL INFORMATION.
TAKING NOTES MAKES
YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY
ABOUT THE SUBJECT; IT
REQUIRES YOU TO LOOK
AT THINGS IN A
DIFFERENT WAY.
IT ALSO HELPS YOU
FOCUS DURING A
LECTURE BECAUSE
YOU’RE ACTIVELY
LISTENING AND
PARTICIPATING IN CLASS.
TAKING NOTES ALLOWS
YOU TO REVIEW
INTERESTING POINTS
FROM WHAT YOU ARE
RESEARCHING, READING
OR LISTENING TO.
WRITING NOTES IN
YOUR OWN WORDS,
ALSO CALLED NOTE
TAKING.
HOW TO TAKE STUDY NOTES: 5
EFFECTIVE NOTE TAKING METHODS
The Cornell note taking method helps organize
class notes into easily digestible summaries.
This method is effective because the main
points, details, study cues, and summary are all
written in one place.
1. THE CORNELL METHOD
2. THE MAPPING
METHOD
The Mapping note taking method is a more
visual way to organize your class notes.
This
technique is useful when learning about
relationships between topics.
3. THE OUTLINING
METHOD
The Outlining note taking method
uses headings and bullet points to
organize topics. This method is
most useful when learning about
topics that include a lot of detail.
4. THE CHARTING
METHOD
Charting note taking method
uses columns to organize
information. This method is
useful for lessons that cover a
lot of facts or relationships
between topics.
5. THE SENTENCE
METHOD
The Sentence note taking
method is simply writing down
each topic as a jot note
sentence. This method works
well for fast paced lessons
where a lot of information is
being covered.
RECORD: Write all the meaningful information legibly.
REDUCE: Make your notes as short as possible using
key words and cue words.
RECITE: Recite all the information in your own words
without looking at your notes or the textbooks.
REFLECT:
a. Think about your own opinion and ideas.
b. Raise questions and record original ideas.
REVIEW: Before going for the new notes, skim over
the main ideas and details.

CONS/DISADVANTAGES OF NOTE TAKING
Time-consuming: Some
note-taking methods, like
concept mapping, can be time-
consuming.
Organization: Not
structuring notes properly can
make it difficult to determine
which information is most
important.
Fast lectures: Note-taking
systems can be difficult to use if
the lecture is fast.
Notes may be incomplete
or inaccurate: It can be
challenging to capture all the
key points and details in real-
time, leading to gaps or
misunderstandings in the notes
Over-reliance on notes:
Some people may become
overly dependent on their
notes, relaying on them too
heavily rather than processing
in the information more deeply.
Difficult: Many students
record every word their teacher
says in class & wind up with
pages upon pages of notes so,
because of that their find it
difficult to read which topic is
important.
REMEMBERING
Studies indicate that people forget
most of the things if they don’t take
notes.
No Forgetting % Timeframe
1 50% In 24 Hours
2 80% In Two Weeks
3 95% In One Month
Note Taking
• Note taking people are:
Students, Lectures, Journalists,
Consultants and many
others.
• Note taking skill is required in many jobs.
• Note taking skill helps you to enhance your
productivity in workplace.
CONCLUSION
To Conclude, note-taking is not just a practical habit
but an art of capturing fleeting moments of thought,
knowledge, and inspiration. It allows us to engage
deeply with ideas, reflect on our learning journey,
and preserve insights that might otherwise be lost.
By organizing our notes, we give structure to our
thoughts and build a bridge between understanding
and action. Ultimately, information into a powerful
tool for growth, enabling us to relearn, and expand
our perspectives as we move forward on our
intellectual path.
CREATIVITY
WHAT IS CREATIVITY?
Ability to imagine or invent something new.
Creativity may be defined as “the quality of being
able to produce original work or ideas in any field.”
It is the activity that results in new, novel , and
unusual way of viewing or solving a problem.
Creative thinking is not a talent it is a skill that be
learnt.
It empowers people by adding strength to their
natural abilities which improves teamwork,
productivity and where appropriate profits.
WAYS TO DEVELOP CREATIVITY
Reading Experience Games
Writing
Fine arts and
hobbies
Finding Solutions
to create
exercises.
WHY DO WE CARE?
• Idea=Performance=Career.
• Allows us to experience more and appreciate things that
are around us.
• World becomes much interesting.
• We can solve problems easier and in a fun way.
THREE COMPONENTS OF CREATIVITY
Expertise
Creative thinking
skills Motivation
EXPERTISE
This encompasses everything known to a person, irrespective of where
it was gained (formal education, practical experience or interaction
with others)
CREATIVE THINKING SKILLS
It encompasses personality characteristics associated
with creativity, the ability to
use analogies as well as talent to see the
familiar in a different light. Development of creative ideas
involves intelligence, self-confidence, risk taking
and
perspectives on problems.
MOTIVATION
It is the desire to work on something because it’s interesting
FACTORS
AFFECTING
CREATIVITY
Atmosphere and
Environment: It is all
about the world around us.
Atmosphere and
Environment both go hand
in hand to influence an
individual’s creativity
levels.
Experiences:
Experiences are a key
player in creative thinking,
the more influenced you
get. These experiences
define your ideas and
creativity which are
presented through your
work.
In one large study, it was
found that having a vision,
being task-oriented, and
engaging in external
communication had a strong
relationship to creativity and
innovation.
Desire: If you simply don’t
want to change things (or
solve problems or inspire
others or do new things)
then you won’t.
SPACE AND TIME:
Productivity may increase under pressure but creativity has no positive
influence if the undisturbed space & right amount of time is not provided. John
Cleese’s talk on creativity states: That having a start & end time to keep your
creative space open is essential. Without a dedicated time block, it is easy to
leave a creative mindset to focus on trivial matters that are easier to deal with
than to take the time to do things that are important. It also takes time to get
into your creative mode. He says that you must realize that it will take time to
achieve something truly original and creative.
TECHNIQUES TO
ENHANCE CREATIVITY
 Develop a broad and rich knowledge base, as
the preparatory phase.
 Foster independence.
 Encourage curiosity and the use of analogies.
 Enhance positive affect.
 Set aside a special thinking time or thinking
place.
MODES OF THINKING
CONVERGENT THINKING
• Convergence is commonly defined as “the
ability to use logical and evaluative
thinking to critique and narrow ideas to
ones best suited for given situations or set
criteria.”
• It is focused on finding the single, best
correct answer to a standard problem in
the shortest time.
DIVERGENT THINKING
 Divergent can be defined by the ability to
“generate many, or more complex or
complicated, ideas from one idea or from
simple ideas.”
 In short, we can say, thinking that produces
many ideas or alternatives; a major element in
original or creative thought.
CONCLUSION
Creativity is the boundless force that transfer
us ordinary to extraordinary. It is the spark
that transforms ideas into innovation, turning
imagination into reality. In its purest form,
creativity is not confined by rules or
limitations; it flows freely, drawing inspiration
from life’s moments of joy, challenge, and
mystery. It enriches our minds, connects us
to others, and allows us to explore the
depths of our own potential. Ultimately,
creativity is the art of shaping the world, one
inspired thought at a time into something
beautiful, meaningful, and unique.
