- 10. Future Intentions Infrastructure Upgrade to AIX 6.x Active Memory Sharing Enable Partition Mobility Increase system availability during patching and firmware upgrades. Increased flexibility in consolidation options (ease of migration between p-series systems) Increase utilisation levels Share resources optimally Automate workload management Simplify HA & DR Auto provisioning Monitoring and management systems (e.g. Director and Tivoli) Applications & Middleware Upgrade to 11g Database and Fusion middleware. Upgrade to R12 eBusiness Suite
- 11. Recommendations Define non-functional requirements early e.g. High Availability and Disaster Recovery. Define Disaster Recovery strategy E.g. SAN-replication vs. Data Guard. Define performance requirements early Concurrent users, ramp-up rate, transactions types, volumes at peak, batch processing requirements and load profile for online and batch processing. Use IBM’s oracle practice and partnership Develop App-specific infrastructure design and software topology. Establish a Performance / Sizing warranty. Decide on CoD position prior to procurement Provides best price for your situation. Plan your growth & load profile. Use AIX specific guides for Oracle ( e.g. performance tuning) Use micro partitioning Use Active Memory Sharing where possible
