SUPERCHARGED COMPUTING
FOR THE DA VINCIS AND
EINSTEINS OF OUR TIME
We pioneered a supercharged form of
computing loved by the most demanding
computer users in the world — scientists,
designers, artists, and gamers.
NVIDIA GPU computing has become
the essential tool of the da Vincis and
Einsteins of our time. For them, we’ve
built the equivalent of a time machine.
Fueled by the insatiable demand
for better 3D graphics and the
massive scale of the gaming market,
NVIDIA has evolved the GPU into a
computer brain at the intersection
of virtual reality, high
performance computing, and
artificial intelligence.
Image: Scientists using GPU
computing were able to “see”
gravitational waves for the
first time in human history.
3
THE TIME HAS COME
FOR GPU COMPUTING
For 30 years, the dynamics of Moore’s
law held true. Microprocessor
performance advanced at a rate
of 50 percent per year as more and
more transistors were fit onto a single
chip. But that approach is hitting the
limits of semiconductor physics, and,
today, CPU performance only grows
by 10 percent per year. NVIDIA GPU
computing has given the industry a
path forward — and will provide a
1,000X speed-up by 2025.
4
THE EPICENTER
OF GPU
COMPUTING
NVIDIA’s GPU Technology Conference
was started in 2009 to foster a new
approach to high performance
computing. Today, GTC is one of the
most important AI events of the year.
Now a global tour, GTC 2017 events
were held in six countries, hosting more
than 22,000 attendees, 750 press and
analysts, and 1,000 technical sessions.
5
NVIDIA DEFINES MODERN
COMPUTER GRAPHICS
Our invention of the GPU in 1999 made possible real-time
programmable shading, which gives artists an infinite palette
for expression. We’ve led the field of visual computing since.
6
THE DREAMS OF

cryogenic electron microscopy, which
allows scientists to see detailed protein
structures at the atomic level (pictured).
15
NVIDIA IGNITES
THE AI BIG BANG
Artificial intelligence is the use of computers to simulate human intelligence.
AI amplifies our cognitive abilities — letting us solve problems where the
complexity is too great, the information is incomplete, or the details are
too subtle and require expert training.
Learning from data — a computer’s version of life experience — is how AI
evolves. GPU computing powers the computation required for deep neural
networks to learn to recognize patterns from massive amounts of data.
This new computing model sparked the AI era.
16
THE ERA OF AI
The PC revolution put a computer
in every home. The mobile era put
a computer in every pocket, and then
the cloud turned every mobile device
into a supercomputer. The AI era will
infuse intelligence into trillions of
computing devices and be the single
largest opportunity the industry has
ever known. AI will spur a wave of
social progress unmatched since
the industrial revolution.

POWERING THE
AI REVOLUTION
GPU computing is the most productive
and pervasive platform for deep learning
and AI. It begins with the most advanced
GPUs and the systems and software
we build on top of them. We integrate
and optimize every deep learning
framework. We work with the major
systems companies and every major
cloud service provider to make GPUs
available in data centers and in the
cloud. And we create computers
and software to bring AI to edge
devices, such as self-driving cars
and autonomous robots.
ONE ARCHITECTURE
18
VOLTA
EVERYWHERE
Volta, the world’s most powerful GPU
computing architecture, was built to
drive the next wave of AI and HPC. With
Volta in full production, NVIDIA’s state-
of-the-art GPU technology is available
everywhere. Every major cloud service
provider now offers Volta instances,
and every major computer maker
offers Volta-based servers for on-
premise data centers.

19
SUPERCOMPUTERS
PURPOSE-BUILT FOR AI
While deep learning holds enormous
promise, it requires a massive amount of
computing power. To arm data scientists
in every organization, we created a
lineup of AI supercomputers. NVIDIA
DGX-1 with Volta, the world’s first
1 petaflops computer, delivers the
performance of up to 400 servers in
a single box; while DGX Station packs
480 teraflops of computing power
into a whisper-quiet workstation.
20
VOLTA
TAKES SATURNV
TO NEW HEIGHTS
NVIDIA’s own SATURNV is one of the
most powerful AI supercomputers in the
world. It’s also the fourth most energy
efficient, based on the November 2017
Green500 list of supercomputers.
SATURNV is powered by 5,280
Volta GPUs, giving it a previously
unimaginable FP16 performance
of more than a half an exaflops
on AI workloads.
21
NVIDIA GPU CLOUD
— ONE PLATFORM,
RUN EVERYWHERE
The NVIDIA GPU Cloud gives AI and HPC
developers access to optimized software
stacks wherever they want it — on PCs,
in the data center, or via the cloud.
We offer containerized stacks for deep
learning, HPC, and HPC visualization.
NVIDIA GPU Cloud makes it easier for
developers to focus on their work.
22
TRILLIONS OF
INTELLIGENT
THINGS
AI will infuse intelligence into 20 million
cloud servers, hundreds of millions of
autonomous machines, and trillions of
IoT devices. But AI inferencing platforms
must be programmable to run the
increasingly diverse, and more complex,
AI networks. NVIDIA TensorRT™ 3, the
world’s first programmable inference
accelerator, sharply boosts the
performance and slashes the cost of
inferencing. TensorRT 3 on Volta speeds
up image classification 40X over the
fastest CPU, and 140X for language
translation. With such performance,
just one 8-GPU server can replace
160 dual-CPU servers.
23
AI IS REVOLUTIONIZING
EVERY INDUSTRY
In addition to our AI technologies, we advance fundamental research,
foster universities and startups, and bring our full capabilities to
industries where we can have the greatest impact.

THE BRAIN OF AI CARS
Autonomous vehicles will modernize the
$10 trillion transportation industry —
making our roads safer and our cities
more efficient. NVIDIA DRIVE™ is a
scalable AI car platform that spans the
entire range of autonomous driving,
from traffic-jam pilots to robotaxis.
More than 225 companies have adopted
DRIVE, using NVIDIA AI technology in
their data centers and vehicles. They
range from car companies and suppliers,
to mapping and sensor companies, to
startups and research organizations.
26
NVIDIA DRIVE —
FROM DATA COLLECTION
TO SIMULATION
Building an autonomous car is an
extraordinary endeavor that starts
with a massive amount of software
development and ends with a license
plate-sized supercomputer. Data from
all over the world, covering every
road condition, needs to be collected
and labeled and fed into a DGX
supercomputer to train the network.
Photorealistic simulation is used to
expand the training set as well as
cover dangerous or extreme scenarios
that can’t be captured on the road.
And after every update to the network,
it needs to be re-simulated to ensure
that it will work on all the roads in the
world. Finally, the network is deployed
on the DRIVE PX car computer.

THE BRAIN OF
THE AI CITY
There will be 1 billion cameras in the
world by 2020. AI will power intelligent
video analytics that can turn this
massive amount of data into safer, more
efficient cities. With NVIDIA Jetson™
TX2, an embedded AI supercomputer, at
the edge and Tesla GPUs in the cloud,
NVIDIA Metropolis is an end-to-end
platform for the AI City. More than two
dozen partners around the world have
adopted Metropolis for a variety of
applications, from public safety to
traffic management.
28
THE BRAIN OF
AI HEALTHCARE
AI is transforming the spectrum of
healthcare, from detection to diagnosis
to treatment. GE Healthcare has
reinvented the CT, doubling image
processing speeds by embedding GPU-
powered AI in its new Revolution
Frontier CT scanner. Nuance is helping
radiologists use AI to speed their
analysis of medical imaging by making
pre-trained algorithms and vast imaging
data sets available to them directly
via its AI Marketplace. And NVIDIA is
teaming up with the National Cancer
Institute, the U.S. Department of
Energy, and several national labs
on the “Cancer Moonshot” to deliver
a decade of advances in cancer
prevention, diagnosis, and treatment
in just five years.
29
THE BRAIN OF
INTELLIGENT
MACHINES & IOT
Deep learning and affordable sensors
have created the conditions for a
Cambrian explosion of autonomous
machines — IoT with AI. NVIDIA Jetson
TX2 delivers 1 teraflops of performance
in a credit card-sized module. Such
power will enable a new wave of
automation in manufacturing, drones
that can inspect hazardous places, and
robots that can deliver the millions of
packages shipped every day.
30
ISAAC — A VIRTUAL
WORLD WHERE
ROBOTS CAN LEARN
The Isaac robot simulator, an AI-based
software platform, lets developers train
robots in highly realistic, physics-based
virtual environments and then transfer
that knowledge to real-world units.
Developers can set up extensive test
scenarios using deep learning training,
and then simulate them in minutes
instead of months.
31
NVIDIA —
A LEARNING MACHINE
NVIDIA has continuously reinvented
itself over two decades.
Our invention of the GPU in 1999
sparked the growth of the PC gaming
market, redefined modern computer
graphics, and revolutionized parallel
computing. More recently, GPU
computing ignited the era of AI.
NVIDIA is a “learning machine”
that constantly evolves by adapting
to new opportunities that are hard
to solve, that only we can tackle,
and that matter to the world.

NVIDIA is united by a core belief that
mastery of our craft lets us tackle the
challenges that matter to the world.
This attitude pervades our culture and
informs everything we do, from
designing amazing products to building
one of the world’s great companies.
33
NVIDIA’s people share a strong sense
of corporate responsibility. Our
philanthropic giving this year exceeded
$5 million. Employees volunteered
more than 17,000 hours and supported
education programs that benefited
nearly 90,000 children.
NVIDIA employees also supported the
fight against cancer by raising $500,000
for the American Cancer Society’s
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Walk” — making Team NVIDIA the
event’s top fundraising team in the U.S.
