This document discusses leveraging participatory culture in online learning for powerful learning experiences. It highlights how online learning can be enhanced by giving learners control over their interactions with media and prompting learner reflection. The document also discusses participatory culture and new media literacies such as play, performance, simulation, appropriation, multitasking, distributed cognition, collective intelligence, judgment, transmedia navigation, networking, negotiation, and visualization. Finally, it provides examples of educator networks in virtual worlds like Second Life that foster social network knowledge construction.
