The OECD is an intergovernmental economic organization with 35 member countries that was established in 1961. It aims to stimulate economic progress and world trade by providing a forum for countries to compare policy experiences and identify solutions to common problems. The OECD originated as the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation in 1948 and was reformed in 1961 to include non-European states as members.
