Part 1A: Workshop Details
Title Equitable learning opportunities for children
Provision of high-quality learning programs that build on each
child’s
unique individual and family strengths, cultural background,
language,
abilities and experiences.
Explanation Teachers will be creating equitable learning
opportunities for the young
children. They will be required to recognize and build on the
unique set
of child strengths, abilities and cultural background. If there
are no
equitable learning opportunities, some students might not
benefit from
learning because their educational needs might not be
considered.
Objective/Purpose The objective of this workshop is for the
attending teachers to
understand how to create equitable learning opportunities and
for the
parents to know what is needed for their children to learn.
Differences
exist in the learning abilities of children. Some students
understand
quicker than others. It is; therefore, important to understand
how the
learning opportunities will be equitable.
Target Audience Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education
The target audience are early childhood educators who need to
learn
how to create equitable learning opportunities for their students.
Theory Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory
This theory suggests that parents, caregivers, peers and the
culture at
large were responsible for developing higher-order functions
(Lantolf,
2018). The caregivers are responsible in the learning of every
children;
therefore, they should ensure that the educational needs of
every child
are addressed.
