three of the founders were still studying mathematics at a university while Fehr already graduated and working as SE. The original idea was that the company would develop software and function as an advisory UNIX group. According to Mantel, the group decided to distribute Linux, offering support.  May 2010 – SUSE continous to grow ang shows large patch unique downloads for SUSE 11.1 and 11.2. Germany ( 28%) and US (14%).
company started as a service provider, which among other things regularly released software packages that included  Softlanding Linux System (SLS, now defunct)  and  Slackware , printed UNIX/Linux manuals, and offered technical assistance. 1996 - first distribution under the name S.u.S.E Linux was published as S.u.S.E Linux 4.2 YaST, the installer and configuration tool that would become the central point of the distribution
Over time SuSE was incorporated many aspects of Red Hat Linux, such as its  RPM Package Manager  and its file structure The largest Linux distributor in Germany. 1997 – SuSE enter US ( Oakland ,  California) 1998 – it was renamed SuSE without dots (S.u.S.E) 1999 -  SuSE enter UK Nov. 4, 2003 -   Novell  announced it would acquire SuSE Linux AG for $210 million
2001 - SuSE introduced the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and changed the company name to SUSE a few months before Novell’s purchased. 2004 – all computers are ran by SUSE Linux and they announced YaST, would released.
Successor of SuSE Linux Professional August 4, 2005 – Novell announced that SuSE Linux Professional would be open.  2003 - version 9.2 OpenSuSE  an unsupported 1 DVD  ISO image  of SUSE Professional was made available for download as well as a bootable Live DVD evaluation SUSE Linux 10.0 included both open source and proprietary applications and retail boxed-set editions. Novell discontinue the Personal version and renamed Professional version to  SUSE Linux . Version 10.2 of SuSE Linux was renamed to  openSuSE .
openSUSE  Download Edition –  free downloadable ISO version, Live-CD version (KDE4 or GNOME), no echnical assistance and no printed manuals. openSUSE  Retail Edition or openSUSE Box -  purchase openSUSE box from  www.open-slx.com,  contains a DVD-9 (dual-layer) comprising the 32-bit and 64, which detects the right architecture during boot time and with printed documentation and with 90 days user support via email or phone
openSUSE  FTP -  a small ISO to install openSUSE directly from FTP (network install)., one for open-source packages (OSS), a second for non-open-source packages or whose license is restrictive (non-oss). openSUSE  Factory -  ongoing development version openSUSE  Tumbleweed-   Rolling release, in which new stable versions of packages.
