This research project aims to develop a leaf area index (LAI) database of common plant species used in green infrastructure in Sydney. LAI is an important metric for quantifying ecosystem services provided by urban green spaces like parks, street trees, and green roofs. While LAI data exists for agricultural crops, data is limited for urban landscape plants.
The project will involve using a LI-COR Plant Canopy Analyzer to measure LAI in the field for representative vegetation in Sydney. A student will collect LAI data and digital photos at selected sites, compile the data into a digital database, and write up the results for potential publication.
