This document discusses techniques for creative thinking and generating new ideas. It suggests that divergent thinking, which goes beyond conventional information to consider alternatives, can take our thinking far outside the box in a non-directed manner similar to the middle game of chess. Specific techniques mentioned include divergent thinking, open-mindedness, fluency in ideas rather than focusing on a single correct answer, and noticing opportunities through serendipity by having the awareness to see them. Risking reputation and considering creativity a necessity rather than a luxury are also advocated.
