- 11. Introductions should clearly identify the position (thesis) of the essay, define terms in the question and state how the essay will be answered.
- 12. Research is required for all essays.Do not overload the essay with research. Recommended 2 - 3 theories or studies to support the argument.
- 13. If the question asks for only one theory or study - it is important to remember that only the first theory or study outlined will be assessed.
- 14. Regardless of the question, there must be evidence of “critical thinking” -analysis, evaluation, synthesis, or application.
- 15. Evaluation must always be relevant to the question. If the question asks to evaluate a theory, evaluating studies is not enough.
- 16. There is a correlation between good writing and a good argument.
