Paragraph Writing
1. Element of paragraph
2. How to write the paragraph:
3. Example of Paragraph:
Paragraph:
● A group of words and sentences that revolves round one main idea is called paragraph.
Paragraph consists of a group of sentences while Essay consists of a group of
paragraphs.
● So we can say that both essays and paragraphs are interrelated with each other.
● A paragraph always explains only one idea.It means that every sentence in the
paragraph describes one main point.
● The length of paragraph depends on the topic. But the more concise the paragraph the
more effective impact it leaves on the reader’s mind.
Element of paragraph:
● Unity
● Coherence
● Order
● Completeness
● In a paragraph , there must be unity between the sentences. That
shows a good impression on the reader's mind.
● For example, If we are writing a paragraph about the early
education of Quaid E Azam, Then we only write about his early
education instead of writing about his professional life.
Unity
Coherence:
● Coherence is the quality that makes your writing understandable.
So, we have to know that every sentence is making a sense and is
interconnected with each other.
● One of the best ways to achieve coherency is to use transition
words. While writing a paragraph, using a consistent verb tense and
point of view are important for coherency.
Order:
● Order refers to the way you organize your supporting sentences.
● A solid paragraph always has a definite organization.
● Order helps the reader to find out meaning and understand the
paragraph easily.
Completeness
● Completeness means a paragraph is well developed.
● If all sentences clearly and sufficiently support the main idea,
then your paragraph is complete.
● If there are not enough sentences then the paragraph is
incomplete.
How to write the paragraph:
A basic paragraph structure usually consists of five
sentences:
1. Topic sentence
2. Three supporting sentence
3. Concluding sentence:
How to write the paragraph:
● Topic sentence:
In the topic sentence, we simply write the introduction of the topic.
● Three supporting sentence:
In three supporting sentences, we simply write more about the topic that is
interconnected with the topic sentence
● Concluding sentence:
In the concluding sentence, we simply write the main idea of the whole
paragraph. We simply write the conclusion in the concluding sentence in the
ending line of the paragraph.
Example of Paragraph:
Sunset is the time of day when our sky meets the outer space solar winds.
There are blue, pink, and purple swirls, spinning and twisting, like clouds
of balloons caught in a whirlwind. The sun moves slowly to hide behind
the line of horizon, while the moon races to take its place in prominence
atop the night sky. People slow to a crawl, entranced, fully forgetting the
deeds that must still be done. There is a coolness, a calmness, when the
sun does set.
