This paper introduces the Passerine Swarm Optimization Algorithm (PSOA) for addressing the optimal reactive power dispatch problem in power systems, inspired by the social behavior of passerine birds. The algorithm aims to minimize real power loss and enhance static voltage stability margins and has been tested on the IEEE 30 bus test system, demonstrating superior performance. Key behaviors of passerine birds, such as search, adherence, and expedition, have been translated into mathematical rules to guide the optimization process.
