This document discusses three methods for organizing a compare and contrast paragraph: point-by-point, subject-by-subject, and similarities then differences. The point-by-point method discusses each comparison category in turn until all points are covered. The subject-by-subject method writes about one subject fully before the other. The similarities then differences method first discusses all differences between subjects before covering their similarities. Examples and outlines are provided for each organization structure to help writers choose the best method for their compare and contrast paragraph.
