Kurt Jooss was a German choreographer born in 1901 who was introduced to dance notation by Rudolph Laban. In 1932, Jooss founded his own dance company and choreographed the anti-war ballet "Green Table". The ballet was a success and toured the US and Europe, though the Nazis accused Jooss of spreading socialism. To escape persecution from the Nazis, Jooss and his company fled Germany for England in 1933.
