What is constructivism?
• Constructivism or constructivist theory is based
  on a type of learning in which the learner
  forms, or constructs, much of what he or she
  learns or comprehends.
What is constructivism?
• Confucius once said, “I hear and I forget. I see
  and I remember. I do and I understand.”
• Many researchers agree that traditional
  teacher-directed or lecture-based instruction
  often is limited in its effectiveness to reach
  today’s learners.

Theorists of Constructivism
• Jean Piaget
• Jerome Bruner
• Lev Vygotsky
• John Dewey
Jean Piaget
• Piaget’s theories profoundly influenced the
  constructivist movement.
• Piaget was a psychologist who developed the
  cognitive learning theory after he observed
  children for many years
• Piaget defined four cognitive
  stages, sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete
  operational, and formal operational.
How the teacher will use constructivism
• The teacher can use projects to help the
  students practice what they have learned in
  the class.
• Letting the students use their artistic abilities
  to create special ways to represent what they
  are learning.
• The students can use any technology they’d
  like for these.
What the students do.
• Students practice what they learn by
  performing either the same task or similar tasks
  with the same outcome.
Constructivism in my classroom
• Through out my class I will try to get my
  students involved in the learning process.
• They will be responsible for projects.
• They will be responsible for activities.
• They will work together to solve problems.
My classroom (continued)
• I will teach the students how to do a math
  problem.
• They will work alongside with me the first time.
• Then practice solving similar math problems of
  varying difficulties.
• We will then go over those problems together
  and help correct mistakes.
