JOURNEY TO MARS
Space Shuttle
INTRODUCTION
There are many people who think that there was once life on Mars
or on other planets of our universe. Since ice caps have been found
On Mars there is evidence that the ice was at one time water. This
Means life could be possible, but is it probable?
Well why not? Do you
really think that the Earth is the only planet that has life on it?You would think
that in one of the billions of galaxies, in one of the zillions of solar systems, there
is a planet, just like our own that has other life, maybe even similar to our
humans.
These are some of the many, many questions that astronomers ask themselves
every day.
Elon Musk plans about colonize Mars
WHAT WE KNOW
Well, we pretty much
know nothing about life on
other planets.We do
however know that there
could be water on planets
like Mars.
Mars contains many polar icecaps
that could have been water at one
point in time. With the existence of
water, means that there could
have been life on planets like Mars.
Physics
One instance in which there was evidence of life on Mars was in August
of 1996. NASA announced that there was a discovery of a fossil had been
found in Antarctica that was from Mars. This fossil was thought to have broke off
of Mars around 15 million years ago, orbit the sun, and then 13,000 years ago
crashed down on our Earth. This fossil had provided evidence that there was once
primate life on Mars. This may be a stretch, but it does provide evidence of life on
POSSIBILITY OF LIFE ON MARS
Over the last four billion years, Earth has received a number of visitors from Mars.
Our planet has been bombarded by rocks blown from the surface of the red
planet, one of the few bodies in the solar system scientists have samples from.
Of the 34 Martian meteorites, scientists have determined that three have
the potential to carry evidence of past life on Mars.
Elon Musk Space Shuttle
There was not much evidence of life on other planets until
recently. Many claims of Earthlike planets have arose, but
none were accurate until planet GJ 1214b.This planet is two
and half times bigger than Earth
But the temperature is just slightly
warmer than Earth. However, the
temperature of the planet is too hot to
support water and therefore life.Then
scientists discovered something very
interesting., the density of the planet is
very low. With this high atmospheric
pressure and relatively low density
mean liquid water could actually
exist on this planet.
Journey to Mars Overview
NASA is on a journey to Mars, with a goal of sending humans
to the Red Planet in the 2030s. That journey is
already well under way.For decades, the agency and its
partners have sent orbiters, landers
and rovers, dramatically increasing
our knowledge about the Red
Planet and paving the way for
future human explorers.The
Curiosity rover has gathered
radiation data to help us protect
future astronauts, and the
upcoming Mars 2020 rover will
study the availability of Martian
resources, including oxygen.
FUTURE VISSIONS
Rockets and Space Vehicles (Grades K-4)
Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter over the martian landscapeMars
Reconnaissance Orbiter
Launch: Aug. 12, 2005; Arrival: Mar. 10, 2006
NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is capturing unique views of Mars with
the most powerful telescopic camera ever to another planet. Its five other
scientific instruments are collecting data about the Red Planet.
Mars Exploration RoverMars Exploration Rovers (Spirit and Opportunity)
Spirit Launch: Jun. 10, 2003; Mars Landing: Jan. 3, 2004
Opportunity Launch: Jul. 7, 2003; Mars Landing: Jan. 24, 2004
Two powerful Mars rovers are on the red planet. They have far greater
mobility than the 1997 Mars Pathfinder rover. Each rover carries a
sophisticated set of instruments to search for evidence of liquid water that
may have been present in the planet's past. The rovers are identical to each
other, but are exploring different regions of Mars.
Mars ExpressMars Express
Launch: Jun. 2, 2003
Arrival: Dec. 2003
NASA is participating in Mars Express, a mission planned by the European
Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency. The mission is exploring
the atmosphere and surface of Mars from polar orbit.
ESA's Mars Express site
Mars Exploration Current Missions
A human mission to Mars has been the subject of science fiction,
aerospace engineering, and scientific proposals since the 19th century.
The plans comprise proposals to land on Mars, eventually settling on and
terraforming the planet, while utilizing its moons, Phobos and Deimos.
Human Mission To Mars
The exploration of Mars has been a goal of
national space programs for decades.
Preliminary work for missions that would involve
human explorers has been undertaken since the
1950s, with planned missions typically being
stated as taking place 10 to 30 years in the future
when they are drafted. The list of manned Mars
mission plans in the 20th century shows the
various mission proposals that have been put
forth by multiple organizations and space
agencies in this field of space exploration.
In the 2010s, numerous Chinese, European and
American agencies were developing proposals
for human missions to Mars, they are now
developing and testing the technologies.
There are many cases in which planet life is
possible.
I think that the universe is so immense that it
would be almost impossible to think that we
are the only living beings in this universe.
There are trillions of galaxies and even more
trillions of solar systems within each galaxy.
In each solar system there is many planets, so
at least of few of those planets have to have
the exact or similar conditions to that of
Earth. Life on other planets is very possible,
but will be very hard to prove without better,
more advanced technology.
