For my pilot questionnaire, I asked 3 members of my target audience to complete
my questionnaire. I asked the basic questions that I needed to know, such as the
age group of the person completing the questionnaire. This allowed me to know
whether the person completing the questionnaire was a member of my target
audience and to find out if my primary audience would want to watch the
documentary. I added the question “In what ways could we improve our
questionnaire?” and left room for the audience to write what they thought about
the questionnaire and therefore I could improve it. One response was that there
should be more questions saying “and why?” so they could write a response
instead of circling an answer. This means that they felt my questionnaire should
have some open-ended questions to make it better.
Another response I had was to ask more questions in the questionnaire and
another response was to have less questions, initially I did not want too many
questions as I found that last year, for my AS work, I had slightly too many and I
wanted to keep the audience interested so that they would write meaningful and
well thought-out responses. I will change the amount of question and add another
one to around the 15-question mark, that would help to give me good audience
feedback. I did the pilot questionnaire in order to avoid the mistakes that may
have been made and this would make it more professional. I also found that the
question I asked about the target audience gave misleading answer choices. As
our target audience is teenagers in education, for example, 12-20 this overlaps on
two choices and I will make the answer choices more varied. I may also decide to
change the sound levels question as this may not make total sense to a non-
specialist audience. Furthermore, I will add instructions on the top of our
questionnaire to ensure that my target audience know what they have to do and
the reasons that they are doing the questionnaire. This would help me to get the
most beneficial results.
