Rising action
 The story builds

Climax
 The moment of greatest tension
 The point to which all events have led
 Characters act

Falling action
 Events are a result of the climax
 The story nears its end

Denoument/Final Outcome
 The denoument is the opposite of the
exposition.
 Remaining plot threads are tied up.
 The reader learns how the characters will
deal with what has happened to them.

Conflict
 Internal: a mental or emotional struggle that
occurs within a character
 External: a struggle that occurs between a
character and outside forces, which could be
another character or the environment

Types of Characters
 Dynamic: the character goes through an
internal change because of the action of the
plot
 Static: a character whose personality does
not change throughout the events in the
story’s plot
