This document presents a novel low-cost power-line communication protocol (ULP) for connecting household appliances to home networks, allowing for smart connectivity via a 'smart adapter' that acts as a proxy between the appliance and other communication networks. The paper covers the operating principles, network structure, and advantages of this system, including cost-effectiveness and ease of integration with existing technologies. Experimental results demonstrate satisfactory performance and suggest the feasibility of implementing ULP in digital appliances while minimizing hardware complexity.
