Library Lingo • Circulation -- department in the front of the library • Circ desk -- desk where you check out materials • Check out -- use library card to prepare items so you may use them • Library card -- your university ID is your library card • Due dates -- date you must return or renew items by • Renew -- act used to keep items longer • Fines -- money you must pay if you fail to return or renew items by the stamped due date • Reference -- dept where you receive help with your library questions.

LIBRARY TOUR • The library is divided into three areas. • First floor – public services, circulation/ reference desks, reference collection, computer labs, current periodicals, microforms, newspapers & new books room. • In general, this is a high-traffic area and not conducive to concentrated study.
- 10. FIRST FLOOR •Materials check out and returns •Course Holds/OhioLINK/ Interlibrary loans •Audiovisual materials Your ID is needed to borrow materials.

- 14. FIRST FLOOR Computer Labs (2) with 8 and 24 PC’s And a multi-media projector.
- 15. As an ONU student, you receive $30.00 in free printing each academic year. Each time you log into the university network and print, money is deducted. If you use more than $30.00, the number will simply go to the negative and the amount will be charged to your university account by the end of the year. Printing at the Library
- 16. Saving documents, etc • Must log-in each time you want to use the catalogs in the library with your user name and password • You may save documents to a jump drive or the H: drive
- 17. LIBRARY TOUR • Second floor – Classrooms, Communication Skills Center, older periodicals, open study tables, group study carrels, 1-2 person study carrels. • The second floor is meant for studying and periodicals use.

- 22. LIBRARY TOUR • Third floor – Book collection, 1-2 person • study carrels, seating in book stacks, lounge • areas. • This is probably the quietest part of the library.

- 37. Find an article • Periodical means the same as Magazine Usually magazines are more “popular” • Journals Scholarly or Professional Peer reviewed

Find an article Often tools for locating journal and newspaper articles Most are subject-specific – some multi- disciplinary Many give access to full text of articles Heterick has 200+ Available from Heterick home page General Databases include Academic Search Complete and JSTOR Subject Specific databases index scholarly journal articles from academic journals devoted to a certain discipline.
