Where Personalised Learning Plan
         originated from in NSW...
 In 2004, the NSW Government conducted a Review of
      Aboriginal Education.
       https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/media/downloads/reviews/aboriginaledu/report/aer2003_04.pdf

 The review resulted in 71 recommendations being
      handed down.
 The development and implementation of Personalised
      Learning Plans was recommendation #28:
“28. That each Aboriginal student have a personalised plan that will be developed by
the school in partnership with parents/caregivers and include targets for learning
against syllabus outcomes and agreed family support strategies, e.g. home reading
strategies, attendance, transition from primary to secondary education.” (pg. 200)

What do PLPs need to contain and reflect?

                            PLPs need to be strongly
                            connected back to the student’s
                            career aspirations – creating
                            significance in student’s learning.

Parent/Caregiver and Family Involvement in High Schools
    • Orientating the whole family into the school during Year 6
to 7 transition is vital for the development of relationships
      with new families.
    • Holding frequent Aboriginal (Multicultural for low
population schools) parent meetings to inform families
about school structures, changes to procedures, school
      programs and school/DEC policies.
    • Educating parents about the various pathways that are
available to students regarding career planning and
      further study options.
    • “Significant Others” play an important role in a High
School student’s life. Students may become more
engaged if the “Significant Other” is involved with the
      PLP development and implementation.
