This analysis investigates the prevalence of deaths caused by police use of force in the U.S. from 2009-2012, finding that an average of 372 individuals die annually due to police actions, which is significantly lower than deaths from other causes such as suicide and vehicular accidents. Among the 1,491 fatalities from police use of force during this period, 32.2% were black males, while 61.4% were white males, suggesting that a majority of these deaths do not involve black individuals. The study emphasizes the need for improved communication and collaboration between police and communities to address public concerns and reduce violence among African-American males.
