Course Synopsis
What is demography, sources of demographic data, their advantages and their
limitations; Components of population change (fertility, mortality and migration) and
factors affecting these components, population composition, population ageing,
Overview of population growth and associated components of population over the
years, population distribution and urbanisation, factors affecting population
distribution and urbanisation, Demography and other disciplines; and basic
theories on population,

Teaching and Learning strategies
Teaching in this course comprises lectures, class discussions, tutorials, presentations and case
studies. A Library session will be organised to acquaint the students with the array of resources,
services and online databases available at the University Library. This session seeks to empower
students with essential skills for effective information retrieval, enabling them to navigate scholarly
materials independently and make optimal use of the library’s diverse resources.
