Population Dynamics
Class : 8
Chapter: 2
Session:1
Made by: Keneith Pereira1
What is Population
• It is about where they live, how many people there are and why they
live there.
• It signifies the total number of people inhabiting a specific area at a
particular time
2
is population fixed ?
3
No, it’s not static rather dynamic:
Ever-changing
Population Dynamics
• It deals with the study of how and why population change in
size and structure over time
4
Distribution of Pop. in
• The world pop is continuously rising and has tripled since 1950
• Mid of 2018: 59.5 % of global population was living in Asia
Few Questions:
• What were the reasons for this much growth rate of population?
• Will the growth rate remain the same ?
5
Factors affecting the size of
population
The answers to all such questions are based upon:
6
Factors that affect the size of the population in the
Fertility Rate or Birth Rate
Death rate or mortality rate
Immigration and emigration
7
eg: 16 students out of 220 answered = 7.27% response rate
8
Calculation of data/ Statistics
Fertility Rate or birth rate
• Generally birth rate refers to the number of live births per 1000
person in given geographical area per year.
• Some statistics(maths) applied:
If the fertility rate is larger than 2 than the population shall rise as
there are more children than their parents. (vice versa)
9
Mortality or Death rate
o birth rate of new people increases the population, death rate decreases it.
Death rate refers to number of deaths per 1000 people in an given
geographical area per year.
 Things/factors that affect death rate:
1. Avalibility of healtcare facilities 2. Lifestyle habits
10
Immigration and Emigration
Migration refers to the movement of people from one place to
another because of varied reasons.
11
Emigrant and Immigrant
Migration refers to the movement of people from one place to
another because of varied reasons.
12
13
Population change
Is defined as the change in number of people during a specific time
which is because of varied factors births, deaths and migration of
people.
Natural growth rate = Birth rate – death rate
N.G.R of any country is the difference between the birth & death rate
14
Density
Q. What is changing in the following 3
pictures?
A: space between molecules/ no of
molecules
Q. What is static in the following three
pictures?
A: the container/ the beaker also it can
be ?
AREA

LOW
average
high
Density of population
• Population density is the number of people for a given area.
• Often given as how many people per square kilometer.
• If places are densely populated, they will have a high population density
• if places are sparsely populated, they will have a low population density.
