My Poster
Developments
Draft One
Feedback:
The feedback I received on my first draft was to
make sure that the diary behind the character Dan,
was bigger and that he’s face is also bigger so that
it’s more clear he is theoretically ‘inside the diary’.
This will also take away the background looking to
black and fill in the gaps around the sides of the
poster. Also making sure that Character’s/Actors
names were put on the poster so that the audience
knew who was acting in the film and that the title of
the film was on the front so that the name of the film
was there for the audience.
My Decisions:
I decided to use an image of diary, as the trailer
involves, Dan, who is the face on the front cover
engulfing into his female romance diary. To make Dan
face look like it is disappearing into the diary, I used an
image of a diary and put in on a layer in front of Dan’s
face layer. To make his face a appear I used the rubber
tool to rub out parts of the diary, so that he’s face was
almost part of the diary page. I then used the blur tool to
blur out the edges and drag the diary into parts of he’s
face. The reason I decided to have Dan’s face on the
front, is because it is a conventional feature of thriller
posters to have the victim and the main character on the
front of the poster.
Draft Two
Feedback:
Feedback I received from my second draft was to add
the billing box, this is a very important conventional
feature for any trailer as this give, who directed the
film, stared in the film, costume designer, camera
workers etc. I was also told to put in the certificate of the
film so that parents, teenagers and adults can see
whether they will want to see this age film or if they are
allowed to watch this film, depending on their age.
Improvements:
From doing my previous feedback, I inputted the actors
names at the top of the page, this is a conventional
feature on a poster as it is making the four main
characters of the film known to the audience. The title of
the film has also been included at the bottom of the
page, this is the most important part of the poster as it
gives the audience an indication to what type of film
they will be watching. I also made the face and diary
bigger, so that there wasn’t too much background
drawing the audience away from the main image. The
bigger the image the more attention the poster will get
from the audience. I also added in a quote from a
newspaper, this is also a conventional feature on a
poster as this gives the film a good review, it means that
the audience are more likely going to watch the
film, because they know it will be good.
Draft
Three
Feedback:
Feedback received on the first draft was that the
billing box was to big and should be made smaller as
it shouldn’t reach both edges of the poster. The font
used for the billing box was not a conventional font
which usually used, the feedback for this was to
change the font. Another point of feedback was to
also make the title of the film smaller, making sure
the billing box was longer than the title but they were
both centered and not stretched to the sides of the
poster. I was also given advice to make Dan and the
diary bigger as there was still too much black on the
edges which needed to be filled. Make sure a logo is
added to the poster.
Improvements:
When doing my previous feedback from my second
draft, I added a billing box. This is usually on all
posters for films as it gives indications to who was all
part of the film such as the director of the the film,
who stared in the film, costume and makeup
designers, camera workers etc. I’ve also put the
certificate badge in the right bottom corner, which is
the conventional place to put the certificate badge on
most posters, which is why I have put mine in this
area. The badge indicates who can watch the film
and can not.
Draft
Four
Feedback:
I was told to make the edges of the diary look less obvious
that they have been rubbed out and make it blend into the
background more gradually. This will also give the poster a
supernatural element as it seems as though the diary is
dissolving, this links to our trailer as we have supernatural
elements within the trailer. Where the newspaper review is, I
was told that I should put the name of the newspaper so that
it indicates to the audience which newspaper said it, making
them read the newspaper to find out more about the film. I
was also told to move the logo next to the ‘coming soon’ as
this is where a logo usually goes, and another one on the
other side, meaning I should make another one and input
this on the other side. Another important convention of a
Improvements:
From taking into account my previous feedback, as you can
see the diary and Dan’s face is much larger. This fills out the
black around the edges and fills out the poster more to
attract the audience. The billing box has been made much
smaller so that it doesn’t take up most of the page. I also
made the title smaller so that it didn’t stretched, making the
title smaller made the poster look more professional. I also
added a logo to the poster in the left corner to show the
name of the company who helped produce the film, this says
bushbro, and the logo has a tree inside. I also added coming
soon so that this is an indication to the audience that they
can see the film soon. The website has also been added so
that the audience can look on the film website if they want to
find out more about the film.
Draft
Five
Feedback:
My feedback for the fifth draft was to add
another logo on the other side of ‘coming soon’.
It is conventional for a poster to have two logos
rather than one as usually more than one
company will be involved in the production of the
film. Also where it says ‘coming soon’ I should
add ‘coming soon this winter’ so that the
audience have a better idea of when the film is
going to come out.
Improvements:
Improvements that I've made is added at
slogan at the top of the poster and moved the
names of the actors to above the title so that
all the text was not t crammed together. A
slogan is a convention of a film poster as it
intrigues the audience to what the film is
about and what’s going to happen. I have
also smoothed and blurred out the edges so
that the edges do not look to harsh and
obviously rubbed out. To do this I used
another layer with the brush tool and used
painted to go around the edges of the diary
so that edges blended in more with the
