- 3. A HAZARD is a situation in the workplace that has the potential to harm the health and safety of people or to damage plant and equipment.
- 4. It’s important to separate the word “harm” from “hazard,” in both the context of the workplace as well as in general. A hazard is anything that has the potential to induce harm or other adverse effects. People can experience health effects, while organizations can experience property or equipment loss. Hazards can also present the potential for harm to the environment.

Sometimes you may be able to fix simple hazards yourself, as long as you don't put yourself or others at risk.
