Formative assessment Used as a building block to the Summative assessment; often homework or in-class work Not graded, scored (4-3-2-1) Used as feedback between teacher & student on progress in specific area. Should show student’s progress to mastery / fulfillment of topic Can be hosted on-line for student access anywhere at anytime (see examples at slideshare.net/cmites)

Power Point possibilities PowerPoint presentations can be multi-purposed: Instruct information to students Contain hyperlinks to supplemental information on the Web Give organized examples and lists of information covered Differentiate for multiple learning styles and intelligences Be printed off in “worksheet” format
- 4. Using hyperlinks Adding hyperlinks in a presentation can guide students to other sources of information about the topic GRAMMAR EXAMPLE: Students are working on pronouns. You give them the opportunity to play a Pronoun Jeopardy! Game hosted at Quia.com. Type in “ Pronoun Jeopardy! Game ,” highlight the text, click on “Insert,” choose “Hyperlink,” and insert the address in the bottom box. The http: address will not show up, but the highlighted words will be underlined, showing it has a hyperlink.
- 5. Inserting lists Lists can be inserted directly from the Web, from Word documents, or from Excel documents. Choose a Slide Layout with a non-text box and then paste in your list. If created in Excel, you can even highlight specific cells for items you wish to emphasize.
- 6. Using as worksheets There are two ways to use PowerPoint presentations as worksheets. First - Consumables: Print them off as handouts, 3 slides to a page. Create examples of what you want students to do / questions you want answered Students can use the lines to the right of each slide as writing space, complete them and hand them in Second – typed answer sheets Students use the presentation as a guide & type their own answers on different document; can be handed in or viewed electronically.
