Employers must protect employees from workplace hazards through engineering and work practice controls or by providing personal protective equipment (PPE). They must assess hazards, select appropriate PPE, train employees on proper use and care of PPE, and require its use. PPE includes equipment to protect the head, eyes, face, hearing, hands, feet, and body from hazards such as falling objects, chemicals, heat, impacts, cuts and radiation. Examples include hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes and body suits.
