WHAT IS ONLINE EDUCATION?
Online education is a type of distance learning
taking courses without attending brick and mortar
school or university.
ORIGIN OF ONLINE LEARNING
 Online learning emerged in 1982 when the
Western Behavioral Sciences Institute In La
Jolla, California opened its School of
Management and Strategic Studies.
 In 1989 the University of Phoenix began
offering education programs through the
internet.
CONTINUED....
 In 1993 with the debut of the first Internet
web browser, created by the University Of
Illinois, online learning began to flourish.
 In 1998, the first fully online programs were
founded: New York University Online,
Western Governor's University, the California
Virtual University and Trident University
International.

ONLINE EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN
 Preston University it was established in 1984
and has been offering online programs to
students all over the country. It was primarily
established as the School of Business and
Commerce and was recognized by HEC.
Preston University is a private university
based in major Pakistani cities such as
Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
 Before COVID-19 just Virtual and Allama Iqbal
Open universities give online classes to their
students.
 On date of 17-march-2020 all higher and other
institutions in Pakistan are closed due the
increase rate in COVID cases. After one month
Government of Pakistan announced online
classes in all higher education and promotes all
classes from Play Group to Grade-12. And
Government ordered to all universities to follow
online classes module of Virtual University.
 The introduction of 3G/4G technology has
contributed to the growth in M-learning
(mobile learning), allowing the incorporation
of e-learning in class rooms as well as in
informal education
COMPARISON BETWEEN ONLINE & ON CAMPUS
CLASSES
 In online classes all responsibility is on
student’s hand, they are responsible for
taking or not taking learns.
 In education universities online classes
proved good, students learn more than in
online era.
 But in Medical and Engineering universities
online system not proved good.
BENEFITS OF ONLINE EDUCATION ON REGULAR
EDUCATION
SITUATION DURING COVID
 While countries are at different points in their
COVID-19 infection rates, worldwide there are
currently more than 1.2 billion children in 186
countries affected by school closures due to the
pandemic.
 In Denmark, children up to the age of 11 are
returning to nurseries and schools after initially
closing on 12 March, but
 in South Korea students are responding to roll calls
from their teachers online.
CHALLENGES OF ON LINE LEARNING
 There are, however, challenges to
overcome. Some students without reliable
internet access and/or technology struggle
to participate in digital learning; this gap is
seen across countries and between income
brackets within countries. For example,
whilst 95% of students in Switzerland,
Norway, and Austria have a computer to use
for their schoolwork, only 34% in Indonesia
do according to OCED data.
IS ONLINE LEARNING IS EFFECTIVE?
 For those who do have access to the right technology,
there is evidence that learning online can be more
effective in a number of ways. Some research shows
that on average, students retain 25-60% more material
when learning online compared to only 8-10% in a
classroom. This is mostly due to the students being
able to learn faster online; e-learning requires 40-
60% than in a traditional classroom setting because
students can learn at their own pace, going back and
re-reading, skipping, or accelerating through concepts
as they choose.
EFFECTS ON ONLINE LEARNING
 Equity and Accessibility to Technology
 Limitations of Technology
BENEFITS
 Flexibility in time
 Variation in course module
 Lowest cost
 Comfortable learning environment
 Continue in profession
DISADVANTAGES
 Don’t know the aim
 Only few people take admission
 Low level of eagerness
 Less rule
WHY?
GLOBAL EXPANSION AND CERTIFICATION
 Journey from Europe
and US but follow by
whole world
 Common platform
sharing
 Acceptance of
certificate throughout
the world
GROWTH
BUSINESS PROBABILITY:
 Big companies are investing
 Google Capital invest $40 million in online education giant
Renaissance learning
 Online education giant Khan academies revenue as per
2012 data 15.795 million USD.
 User of edX (provider of MOOC) – more than 5 million
CONCLUSION
 Hence the two systems of education has got
benefits and drawbacks it cannot be told this
particular system is best or worst. According
to our convenience and based on the
suitability of the benefits you can choose the
best one and educate yourself well.
