Making and
evaluating my
practice soap
    trailer
Because this was my practice product
we had to work out how we worked
best in our group. We all started by
   finding spoken dialogue from other
soaps and selecting some to use in our
own. This means we were using a
source to make our own practice soap
realistic. We ended up taking speech out
    of both Hollyoaks and Emmerdale.
We divided our team for each storyline into different roles:
By splitting the groups into different
roles it meant we got to practice each
different job as well as keeping
ourselves organised and on our own
                                                                                personal task.

                                     and Max
When filming we used a
lot of angles used in the
actual soap. This meant
that we had a practice at
what conventional
framing and shot angles
are used in your typical
soap. This would helps us
to recreated a realistic
product for our final
trailer.
Mine and Tiffs editing of the trailer:

Me and Tiff noticed that a common
feature in trailers is the use of thought
beats. We decided to imitate this
feature in our practice trailer. The music
we used in the background is the
opening cut from a song called
                                  “You!Me!Dancing!” which was popular
with our audience (late teens). To
create more of a intensity to our
thought beats we also put a heartbeat
sound with the music to create a better
                                                    effect.

We think thought beats work in trailers
because it gives the audience little
                                     snippets of feelings from each
character. We will be considering using
                                        this in our final product.
TITLE CARDS

Title cards are an essential part of soap trailers because they help
                           create a narrative.

I think the title cards in my soap could be improved and I hope to
use different ones which create more branding in my final product.
I think my practice trailers cuts could of ran a lot smoother and that some of the
dialogue could of been louder – this is something I will try and improve on for
my final product. Sound is a very important thing to get clear when filming. I
think our lighting worked well throughout the trailer and this isn’t something
we struggled with. The main music used in the trailer was “heart skips a bit” by
Olly Mures and I felt this worked well because it matched the narratives.
