The document is a screenplay that follows Jamal, a young man, through his day. It begins with Jamal waking up and getting ready. He then meets up with his friends, including Ricky and Charlie, at a housing estate. Ricky pressures Charlie to take photos of the group posing. They are interrupted by a police officer and everyone runs away. Jamal is caught and taken to the police station. Later, Jamal is attacked and stabbed in an alley by Charlie, who believes Jamal informed on their friend Ricky to the police.

- 1. CV1. 1. INT. JAMAL’S BEDROOM/HOUSE – DAY Jamal wakes up sits up and gets up out of bed. Jamal then walks out of his room to the bathroom. He sees the Gillette shaving cream/razor and begins to wash his face. The camera moves forward and swings around (following the movement of Jamal). Everything Jamal sees is what the camera sees. Point of view shots. Fades to black. Jamal walks down the stairs. POV-C.U shot of the door handle. JAMAL’S MUM (In a high pitched screech) Jamal! Wehyuh ah go, when you’re out pick me something to drink, I’m not leaving the house today. Jamal sighs, grabs and turns the door and walks through the front door of the house. Jamal looks at the recycling bin full of bottles. Camera pans down, then up, then left, then right – POV. EXT. STREET – DAY Jamal walks down the road “bopping”, headphones in. Music playing:-Giggs? ChoongFam? Camera slightly moving side-to-side to represent Jamal’s movement. POV. 2. EXT. HOUSING ESTATE – DAY Jamal walks to the estate where his friends are gathered. Jamal greets Ricky (happy), gang member one (lively) and gang member two (relaxed) with a with a touch of fists (“spud”). Except Charlie (emotionless face) who just nods his head at Jamal so Jamal nods his head back. Ricky begins to drink a bottle of Courvoisier. The camera follows the Jamal pans around, moves towards each individual character except Charlie. The camera moves up and down (nodding fashion) to represent a nod. POV, Mid-shot. Gang member one
- 2. (mumbles) You’ve had that for ages, pass the bottle around g. Gang member two Innit. Ricky reluctantly passes the bottle of Courvoisier to Gang member one. Gang member one takes a swig of the bottle and passes to gang member two. Gang member two offers Jamal some Courvoisier as a sign of respect knowing Jamal will reject the offer. Camera pans left to right, right to left as the exchange between Ricky gang member one and gang member two. POV Mid-shot. Camera shakes left to right to resemble Jamal shaking his head at the offer. Ricky then leads the gang out of the estate. Ricky stops as he sees an open window with a Nikon camera on the windowsill. Camera pans to look at the Nikon camera.Long shot- POV.Camera pans again to look at Ricky. Fade out. CUT TO: Gang member one, Ricky and gang member two posing for camera. Ricky (Aggressive tone) Charlie, hurry and take the picture you soggy yute. Camera focuses on Charlie then Ricky, gang member one and two. Camera then does 180 degrees turn. Stops. Then does another 180 degrees turn. Jamal sees the police officer and instantly starts running. Charlie also sees the police officer he drops the camera, runs and trips up Jamal. Ricky, gang member one and two run off in a different direction. Camera wobbles to represent Jamal’s movement. Camera falls forward and hits the fall, representing Jamal falling over. Blacks out. Police officer (V.O) You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, an attorney will be provided
- 3. at no expense to you. You have the right to not answer questions at any time and request an attorney be present before any questioning continues. Do you understand these rights? 3. Mid-shot of the outside of the police station. Police officer (O.S) Burglary is no joke, this is very serious. You and your little group of friends are trouble, you always have been. Do you think burglary is cool? Did you steal the camera? (Angrier) Well, did you? Echoes. Fade in. EXT. COVENTRY POLICE STATION – NIGHT Jamal walks out of the police station. Camera brightens, wobbles and pans downwards then left to right. Jamal puts in his headphones and begins walking. Music: Giggs? Choongfam? Who? CUT TO: The police officer picks up the camera and scrolls through the pictures to find the pictures of Ricky, gang member one and gang member two. Fade to black. CUT TO: Jade walking towards Jamal, excited. Jade hugs Jamal lovingly. Jade Hi. Why are you coming out of the police station? Mid-shot, camera focused on Jade. Jamal I will tell you later, don’t worry, just don’t worry. Jamal runs away. Mid-shot, camera focused on Jamal. Camera pans as Jamal runs away. CUT TO:
- 4. A text sent by Jade to Charlie, gang member 1 and gang member 2. The texts reads: “Hey guys, bad news Ricky has been caught by the police, I think Jamal grassed because I saw him walking out the police station” 4. EXT. ALLEY WAY - NIGHT Camera goes from being out of focus to in focus and begins to pan upwards until all of Jamal’s body is in the frame. Long-shot. Jamal walks towards the camera, looking down with his hands in his pockets.A quarter of the way down Charlie begins to follow Jamal without Jamal knowing.Half the way down the alleyway Charlie catches up to Jamal, grabs him around his neck, pulls him down and stabs Jamal repeatedly in the chest. Jamal grabs a hold of Charlie’s hat and pulls it off of his head. Charlie runs away. Close-up of Jamal laying on the floor.
