•Practice teaching is a crucial
component of teacher education
programs worldwide.
•Practice teaching plays a crucial role
in preparing future educators.
•This presentation explores the
significance, process, challenges, and
benefits of practice teaching
What is Practice Teaching?
• Practice teaching, also known as teaching
practicum or internship, is a hands-on learning
experience where pre-service teachers apply
theoretical knowledge in real classroom
settings.
•It involves observation, planning, teaching,
and reflection under the guidance of mentor
teachers and supervisors.
Importance of Practice Teaching
• Bridge between theory and practice: Allows pre-
service teachers to apply pedagogical theories in
real-world contexts.
• Development of teaching skills: Enhances
classroom management, instructional strategies,
and student engagement techniques.
• Professional identity formation: Fosters reflection
and self-awareness, shaping future educators'
teaching philosophy and practices.
•It provides pre-service
teachers with hands-on
experience in real classroom
settings.
•Helps in developing teaching
skills, classroom management
techniques, and understanding
student dynamics.
Requirements for Practice Teaching
•Completion of relevant academic
coursework.
•Enrollment in a teacher education
program.
•Compliance with specific requirements
set by the Commission on Higher
Education (CHED) or the Department of
Education (DepEd).
Process of Practice Teaching
1.Placement: Assigned to partner schools or educational
institutions.
2.Observation: Observe mentor teachers' classes to
understand classroom dynamics and instructional
strategies.
3.Gradual Assumption of Teaching Responsibilities: Start
with assisting, then co-teaching, and eventually leading
classes under supervision.
4.Reflection: Engage in reflective practice sessions to
evaluate teaching experiences, identify strengths, and
areas for improvement.
Challenges in Practice Teaching
• Classroom management: Managing student
behavior and maintaining a conducive learning
environment.
• Differentiated instruction: Addressing the diverse
needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Time management: Balancing teaching
responsibilities with academic coursework and other
commitments.
• Feedback and evaluation: Receiving constructive
feedback and integrating it into teaching practice.
Strategies to Overcome Challenges
• Establishing rapport with students and mentor
teachers.
• Seeking guidance and support from supervisors
and peers.
• Engaging in continuous professional development
to enhance teaching skills.
• Utilizing resources effectively and being adaptable
to diverse classroom contexts.
Benefits of Practice Teaching
•Practical application of theoretical
knowledge.
•Enhanced teaching skills and confidence.
•Development of professional identity and
teaching philosophy.
•Opportunities for networking and building
relationships within the education
community.
Impact on Student Learning
•Positive influence on student
engagement, motivation, and
achievement.
•Provision of varied instructional
approaches tailored to student needs.
•Promotion of a supportive learning
environment conducive to student
success.
•Practice teaching is a fundamental
component of teacher education in the
Philippines.
•It equips pre-service teachers with the
necessary skills and experiences to become
effective educators.
•Despite challenges, the benefits of practice
teaching extend to both teachers and
students, contributing to the improvement of
education nationwide.
