Globalization:
 Definition:
 Globalization is a term used to describe the change in societies and the world
economy that are the result of dramatically increased read and cultural
exchange.
 In specifically economic contexts, it refers almost exclusively to the effects of
trade particularly trade liberalization or free trade.
Economic Integration:
 Stock Markets are new accessible from any where in the world!
 The increasing reliance of economies on each other.
 The opportunities to be able to buy and sell in any country in the world.
 The opportunities for labour and capital to locate anywhere in the world.
 The growth of global markets in finance.
Trade vs. Aid:
 Benefits of Trade:
 Increase choice
 Greater potential for growth
 Increase international economics of scale
 Greater employment opportunities
 Trade has led to massive increases in wealth for many countries
Disadvantages of Trade:
 Increase in gap between the rich and poor
 Dominance of global trade by the rich, northern hemisphere countries
 Lack of opportunities for the poor to be able to have access to markets
 Exploitation of workers and growers
Corporate Expansion:
 Multi-national or transnational corporations businesses with a headquarters in
one country but with business operations in a number of others.
 No matter where you go in the world, certain businesses will always have a
presence.
The Globalization of Markets:
 The fact that in many industries historically distinct and separate national
markets are merging into one huge global market place in which the tastes
and preferences of consumers in different nations are beginning to converge
upon some global norm.
 Ex-
 Sony play station, Citicorp credit cards, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, hamburgers....
The Globalization of Technology:
 Lowering of trade barriers made globalization possible
 Technology has made it a transforming movement
 For example food processing and packaging are the one of the area where
new entrepreneurs can enter into a big way.
 Advantages of Globalization:
 Free exchange of ideas and
information
 Free movement of people(tourism,
migration)
 Higher level of life
 Free exchange of idea and
information
 Disadvantages of Globalization:
 Globalization has also thrown up
new challenges.
 Growing inequality across and
within nations.
 Another negative aspect of
globalization is that a great
majority of developing countries
remain removed from the process
Conclusion:
 Globalization has been helpful to intensify social, economics and cultural
relations of each nation. There are negative and positive effect of it in
cultural diversity, but the benefits we can get from it were useful in the
development of a country.
