Approximate Number of Class Periods One :  Introduction Exercise- See Warmup. Two : Review assignment, create groups, review rubric,  review Wikispace address/posting/discussion board Three-Five :  Group Work (see Activities), Wikispace discussion board posts, upload projects Six :  Group Presentation Day Individual Quiz to follow ( Day 7 ) *Prior class periods/projects were based in PowerPoint, Excel and Timeliner so no software review needed.
Classroom Management Strategies Students will be divided up into three groups each charged with exploration of one of the following areas: Group 1: History of Oil Spills Group 2: Causes of Oil Spills Group 3: Effects of Oil Spills Strategy
Group 1 Activity History of Oil Spills (Timeliner) Researches the history of oil spills over this country in the past 100 years, identifying at least  7  different spills Group inputs information into Timeliner Develop the graphing tools orientation Format image/content insertion Group uploads completed work to their  group Wiki page Group presents section to the class
Group 2 Activity Causes of Oil Spills (Excel) Group divides responsibilities and conduct their research Identify onshore, offshore and transportation spills Group inputs information into Microsoft Excel and generate a graph of percentages Group uploads completed work to their group Wiki Page Group presents section to the class
Group 3 Activity Effects of Oil Spills (PowerPoint) Group divides responsibilities and conduct their research on the effects of oil spills  Group designs layout in Microsoft PowerPoint Develop background and choose fonts Incorporate multimedia (clip art, sounds and animation) Group uploads completed work to their group Wiki page Group presents section to the class
Group Assessment Group will be graded based on rubric assigned to the activity. Value per category grade varies: -1 being the lowest -4 being the highest Teacher reserves the right to deduct points for students that fall short of group responsibility Passing grade for each group would be 15 out of 20
Individual Assessment Students will be quizzed on content presented in oral and visual presentations Quiz surveyed using survey monkey or goggle docs Students will have access to wiki to review content prior to quiz All access information will be hidden on day of quiz. Passing grade TBD
Back-up Plan If all else fails: Students utilize library Poster board presentations Group oral presentations
Accommodations If needed: Paired partners provided Step by step written instruction Extra time to complete portions Access to wiki page during exams Added components available for critical thinking students Predictions/outcomes/solutions
