Bill LizardGemma and Jess
Pitch…Pitch represents the frequency of a sound. It is one of the major auditory attributes of musical tones along with duration, loudness, timbre, and sound source location. Pitch allows the construction of melodies; pitches are compared as ‘higher’ and ‘lower’, and are measured as frequenciesIn the radio drama there are lots of different pitches that vary from low to high. For example the person at the start has a very low pitched voice connoting that this part of the drama is more serious whereas the character playing Bill Lizard speaks quite high pitched which connotes that that particular part of the drama is more comical.
Cultural Codes…Codes are made up of the different elements we use to communicate with others. For example, we have dress codes, linguistic codes, codes of conduct and so on. Each code is made up of separate elements which mean something individually but much more when combined with other things. The accent and the dialect are cultural codes: The person speaking has an American accent and a clear pronunciation. The accent becomes more informal in the middle of the radio drama. The speaker has a strong dialect using words that can be hard to understand.
Generic Verisimilitude…Generic Verisimilitude is things that the drama contains that show connotations of the Genre. This is shown through signifiers of how formal/ informal the mode of address is and the type of words used and how they are spoken. The genre in this radio drama is comedy and it therefore contains Generic verisimilitude that is comical. For example the speaker talks about a talking rabbit and has an informal mode of address. He also makes up his own words that we don’t understand. These are typical signifiers connoting a comedy genre.
Texture… The voice at the beginning of Bill lizzard is rough as the thickness of his voice is quite thick and his pitch is low. Yet the textures of the different characters change throughout, for example the texture of the voice of the rabbit is quite smooth yet the pitch is quite high.
Formality… At the beginning the speaker is very formal, his language is unchanging therefore it is in a frozen manner. Yet as the drama carries on ,the formality changes and it becomes informal when the different characters are introduced.
