AFRICAN YOUTH ENTREPRENUERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCE
AYEDA
PRESENTED BY EDDISON SHUMBA
12 - 2015
Background. #thesituationrightnow
 According to the UN report, nearly half of the entire African youth population is
under the age of 18, the population is set to double by 2050 reaching 2.5 billion.
Africa is on the brink of a “youth bulge” So what does the future hold for Africa’s
youth?
 OECD (2015), Youth unemployment rate in Africa indicated at over 50%
 According to South Africa's small development agency (2013), total
entrepreneurship activities for south Africa's small to medium enterprises of less
than 42 months were 9.1% (loosely translated 9.1% of the population in SA are
starting businesses) but these are only for businesses who are three and half years
old. For enterprises who are 42 months and above, that same index drops down to
2.9%. This depicts that in SA (and African continent at Large), the fatality rate for
small business enterprises is high. In Africa the youth have been given so much
excitement that they can build their own businesses, Unfortunately after 42 months
the business are no-more. What do we do next?

Africa as an investment case not a basketcase
 Africa can be described as the best-kept secret. Africa, as a whole, has been
growing by 5.5 per cent a year for the past decade and has been sustainable. ‘The
hopeless Continent’has become the next investment frontier.
 The continent has become the second most attractive investment destination in the
world – ranking just behind North America — as investors are looking beyond the
more established markets of South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. Increased
investment and industrialization will help to unlock the potential for job creation
and poverty reduction in African countries.
 market of billions of people, including a growing middle class
 Over the past ten years, the general trend across African governance is positive.
We have seen a marked decline in conflicts, sustained economic development, and
significant gains in Human Development. We are more peaceful, prosperous,
healthy and well-educated than at the turn of the millennium.
Ayeda : as the way forward. Why ayeda?
 AYEDA is a non-profit international organization. A team of Business mentors
that was established as a platform for African youth interested in business to
network and learn about resources for starting and growing business in Africa. The
organization works with various governments, financial sectors, and private equity
investors in a bid to encourage entrepreneurship in Africa. The organization
thrives to mobilize youths to value entrepreneurship as a sustainable
developmental tool that can see Africa’s economy prosper.
 Our developmental goal is to foster youth entrepreneurship development in Africa
through business mentorship and bringing together African youths and world
investors to network thereby necessitating entrepreneurship resource mobilization
in Africa .We contemplate that Entrepreneurship prosperity is a function of
financial capital, social capital and real assets. As an organization we thrive to
bring those four functions together.
 Our vision is to see Africa as the No 1 Investment destination in Africa.
