INTRODUCTION
• Practical Research students cannot expect students to provide a research problem at the
drop of a hat. Before teaching research subjects, teachers must assess their students'
research abilities.
• Practical Research 2 is one of the applied subjects in all tracks be it Academics, Technical,
Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) or Sports. This course develops critical thinking and
problem-solving skills of students through quantitative research method (DepEd
Curriculum Guide).
• The research teacher, encounters difficulties in dealing with the attitudes and behavior of
HUMSS students towards research. It has been a common observation that the students
usually evade activities related to doing research.
• The main reason why they try to escape research is their communication and technical
deficiencies. Knowing that research output is in English, the students find writing as a
burden. They also feel reading to find substantial references for a good research as a
tedious process while writing the material is practically not their interest.
• This study will also assess the level of performance of Humanities and Social Science
(HUMSS) students of DABSPNHS as to their grades, the problems encountered by the
teachers in teaching research, after which the Proposed Action Plan as output of this
CONCEPTUAL
FRAMEWORK
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
• Interlanguage Theory postulated by Robert Lado (cited by Rangelova,
2022), assumes that learners' errors are caused by the difference between
learners’ L1 and L2. This approach was deficit-focused, in the sense that
speech errors are thought to arise randomly and should be corrected.
• This would help the students identify the most substantial references
supporting the discussed variables. In this study, knowledge on the
English language would increase the level of interest of in research of
HUMSS learners of DABSPNHS in terms of research skills development,
writing and reading research materials, defense, social investigation,
interview, data collection, analysis and interpretation, all of which require
English language competence.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. What is the level of research engagement of Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) students of Dr.
Aristeo Baldos, Sr. Papandayan National High School in terms of:
1.1. research skills development;
1.2. writing and reading research materials;
1.3. defense;
1.4. social investigation;
1.5. interview; and
1.6 data collection, analysis and interpretation?
2. What is the level of performance of Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) students of Dr. Aristeo
Baldos, Sr. Papandayan National High School as to their grades?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the level of research engagement and the level of
performance of Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) students of Dr. Aristeo Baldos, Sr Papandayan
National High School as to their grades?
4. What problems are encountered by the Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) students in
research?
5. Based on the findings, what action plan may be proposed?

Based on the findings, what action plan may be proposed?
The proposed action plan would concentrate on several parameters of the
indicators rated as average and those rated high in the bottom three. These include
getting into intense training and instruction of research in the classroom and going out
for multi-level competitions on research for research skills development, choosing
topics for the review and other parts of research for writing and reading research
materials, showing readiness and awareness to accommodate suggestions and
recommendations, practicing the comprehensive delivery of the research materials
during final defense, and intensifying review of the entire research material for
defense.
Under data collection, analysis and interpretation, this study considers the
three bottom high as included which include the following: anchoring results on related
literature and studies, gathering data from the samples of respondents, and drawing
out implications and meanings to draw findings and conclusions.
CONCLUSIONS
1. HUMSS students are engaged in research particularly in interview and in social
investigations but are limited to data collection, analysis and interpretation, writing
and reading research materials, research skills development and defense.
2. The respondents show an impressive performance of very satisfactory
dominated by those with an outstanding performance and the least by excellent ones
due to their varying level of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.
3. Students’ level of engagement in research is not a predictor of their
performance as research is an integral part only of studying Humanities and Social
Sciences (HUMSS).
4. Moderately serious problems faced with by the HUMSS students are more of
personal in nature while those externally uncontrollable ones appear as least serious
because they are assisted and supported by their parents and teachers.
5. The proposed action plan intends to empower the HUMSS students further in
their ability to conduct interview and social investigation including data gathering,
analysis and interpretation with sufficient PPAs for implementation.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. HUMSS students may be further encouraged by their teachers to get engaged in research with
emphasis on data collection, analysis and interpretation, writing and reading research materials,
research skills development and defense through intense training and instruction.
2. School administration may continue providing HUMSS students with diverse opportunities to excel
academically without relegating attention from research by continued supervision, guidance, coaching
and mentoring.
3. Research training and instruction may be carried out in a high end manner by inviting resource
persons and trainers exposing HUMSS students to intense research skills development activities.
4. HUMSS teachers may allot quality time to discuss with the students the problems they encounter in
research for proper mitigation and resolution.
5. The proposed action plan may be immediately implemented following the accordance of sufficient
resources, subscription of the stakeholders, and provision of strong assessment, monitoring and
evaluation mechanisms to ensure its eventual success.
6. A future study with greater emphasis on wider gray areas in research may be conducted for quality
validation of the current results.
THANK YOU…

  • 18. Sub-Problem No. 5. Based on the findings, what action plan may be proposed? The proposed action plan would concentrate on several parameters of the indicators rated as average and those rated high in the bottom three. These include getting into intense training and instruction of research in the classroom and going out for multi-level competitions on research for research skills development, choosing topics for the review and other parts of research for writing and reading research materials, showing readiness and awareness to accommodate suggestions and recommendations, practicing the comprehensive delivery of the research materials during final defense, and intensifying review of the entire research material for defense. Under data collection, analysis and interpretation, this study considers the three bottom high as included which include the following: anchoring results on related literature and studies, gathering data from the samples of respondents, and drawing out implications and meanings to draw findings and conclusions.
  • 19. CONCLUSIONS 1. HUMSS students are engaged in research particularly in interview and in social investigations but are limited to data collection, analysis and interpretation, writing and reading research materials, research skills development and defense. 2. The respondents show an impressive performance of very satisfactory dominated by those with an outstanding performance and the least by excellent ones due to their varying level of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. 3. Students’ level of engagement in research is not a predictor of their performance as research is an integral part only of studying Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS). 4. Moderately serious problems faced with by the HUMSS students are more of personal in nature while those externally uncontrollable ones appear as least serious because they are assisted and supported by their parents and teachers. 5. The proposed action plan intends to empower the HUMSS students further in their ability to conduct interview and social investigation including data gathering, analysis and interpretation with sufficient PPAs for implementation.
  • 20. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. HUMSS students may be further encouraged by their teachers to get engaged in research with emphasis on data collection, analysis and interpretation, writing and reading research materials, research skills development and defense through intense training and instruction. 2. School administration may continue providing HUMSS students with diverse opportunities to excel academically without relegating attention from research by continued supervision, guidance, coaching and mentoring. 3. Research training and instruction may be carried out in a high end manner by inviting resource persons and trainers exposing HUMSS students to intense research skills development activities. 4. HUMSS teachers may allot quality time to discuss with the students the problems they encounter in research for proper mitigation and resolution. 5. The proposed action plan may be immediately implemented following the accordance of sufficient resources, subscription of the stakeholders, and provision of strong assessment, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure its eventual success. 6. A future study with greater emphasis on wider gray areas in research may be conducted for quality validation of the current results.
