This document discusses how information technology is changing assessment practices. It covers the differences between summative and formative assessment, and how IT allows for more diverse formative approaches like digital portfolios and assessing collaboration. New goals of e-assessment include assessing higher-order skills like metacognition and supporting web-based peer and self-assessment. IT literacy skills are also increasingly important to assess due to students' use of technology outside of school. The conclusion questions how IT is changing assessment within policy, research, and teaching, and what needs to be assessed with support from new technologies.
