Bionic goggles are glasses that use cameras and image processing to help visually impaired people "see" by projecting enhanced images to their retinas. The goggles were developed by engineer Conrad Lewis to help his sisters who had Stargardt's disease. They magnify and highlight edges of objects to provide spatial awareness. Testers with conditions like retinitis pigmentosa said the goggles helped them identify obstacles and read signs. Future improvements could include object recognition, depth perception, and making the devices smaller and less conspicuous.
