- 13. Five Phases of Cooperative Learning In the “engagement” phase, the teacher “sets the stage” for the activity presented. In the “exploration” phase, students work on the “initial exploration of ideas and information.” In the “transformation” phase, this is where the students gather all of their thoughts about the information. In the “presentation” phase, the students present their information to the other students. Cooperative learning groups should be rather small in size. 3. Cooperative learning should be used consistently and systemically, but should not be overused. 4.
