Presentation On Hyperloop
• The Hyperloop is technically the fifth mode of transportation
after trains, cars, boats and technically rockets.
• A Hyperloop is a sealed tube or system of tubes through which
a pod may travel free of air resistance or friction conveying
people or objects at high speed while being very efficient.
HISTORY 18th century
In 1799, George Medhurst of London conceived of and patented an atmospheric
railway that could convey people or cargo through pressurized or evacuated tubes.
In 1888, Michel Verne, imagined a submarine pneumatic tube transport system that
could propel a passenger capsule at speeds up to 1800 km/h under the Atlantic
Ocean in a short story called "An Express of the Future"

Polytechnic Institute in the United States in 1904

Elon Musk (mentioned in 2012)
 Founder of PayPal, SpaceX, The Boring
company, Solar City.
 Co-founder of Tesla Inc.
Latest Version Proposed By:
 Elon Musk's version of the concept, first publicly mentioned in 2012, incorporates
reduced-pressure tubes in which pressurized capsules ride on air bearings driven
by linear induction motors and air compressors.
 The Hyperloop Alpha concept was first published in August 2013, includes:
• A route running from the Los Angeles region to the San Francisco Bay Area .
• The 350-mile (560 km) route at a speed of 760 mph (1,200 km/h), allowing for
a travel time of 35 minutes.
• Preliminary cost estimates US$6 billion for a passenger-only version.
 The Hyperloop concept has been explicitly "open-sourced" by Musk and SpaceX,
and others have been encouraged to take the ideas and further develop them.
Presentation On Hyperloop
How does it work?
The passenger capsules aren’t propelled by air pressure like in vacuum tubes, but by
two electromagnetic motors. It is aimed to travel a top speed of 760 miles per hour.

• Immune to weather and earthquake.
• Self-powering
• Unobstructive
• Each of the tube sections can move around flexibly of the train
ships because there isn’t a constant track that capsules rely on.
• Solar panels on the top to the track supply
power to the periodic motors.
India’s proposed route
• Chennai and Bengaluru, the distance of 345 km could be covered in 30 minutes.
• Mumbai and Delhi passing via Indore, Kota and Jaipur.
• Mumbai and Pune that would cut the travel time from current 180 minutes to
just 20 minutes.
Criticism and human factor
considerations
• Possibly unpleasant and frightening experience of riding in a narrow, sealed, and
windowless capsule inside a sealed steel tunnel, that is subjected to significant
acceleration forces.
• High noise levels due to air being compressed and ducted around the capsule at near-
sonic speeds
• The vibration and jostling
• At high speeds, even minor deviations from a straight path may add considerable
buffeting
• This is in addition to practical and logistical questions regarding how to best deal
with safety issues such as equipment malfunction, accidents, and emergency
evacuations.
• How a slight misalignment in the tube would be compensated for and the potential
interplay between the air cushion and the low-pressure air.
• What would happen if the power were to go out when the pod was miles away from a
city.
• Concern regarding “[the Hyperloop's] novelty and the vulnerability of its tubes,
which would be a tempting target for terrorists”
• The system could be disrupted by everyday dirt and grime

Editor's Notes

  • #11: The tube tracks do have a vacuum, but not completely free of air. Instead, they have low pressure air inside of them. Most things moving through air tubes will end up compressing the air in the front thus, providing a cushion of air that slows the object down. But the Hyperloop will feature a compressor fan in the front of the capsule. The compressor fan can redirect air to back of the capsule, but mostly air will be sent to air bearings.
  • #12: Air bearings are ski like paddles that levitates the capsules above the surface of the tube to reduce friction.
